Buying contouring products from a makeup counter

I have dry skin. I usually use E45 and then a cheap foundation which I apply with my finger. I want a more moisturising look and have the right tools and products for contouring. I don't want to do all the layers if contouring I want the put the different colours on and then blend them in.

I'm thinking if going to boots and getting them to apply it on me so that I get the right colours and brush. I've never done that before so how much should I expect to spend on highlighter, concealer and foundation? And a brush or sponge?

Would it come in a set?

Depends which counter you go to but you could be looking at £100

For a moisturising foundation I recommend L'Oréal true match serum foundation, it's medium coverage and dewey, doesn't sit in my fine lines. It's not that expensive. About £25.

Beauty blenders (the sponge things) are dirt cheap and available everywhere. £5 ish at most. I find them useful for blending in concealer.

Brushes you can buy a set and they may be labelled what they're for. I got one £20 but can't remember brand sorry. Was either in supermarket or boots though. Happy with it. Applying foundation with a brush gave a much better finish for me. The right eyeshadow brush made a massive difference to how it looked after application too.

Contouring doesn't suit me, but when I was dabbling with it I just used whatever powder eyeshadow I had in a suitable colour.

I still do use eyeshadow as a highlighter. I'm going through a use-what-you-have phase though because I'm overrun with stuff and trying not to buy more. I had an ELF highlighter powder that was nice. About £12 I think.

You'll only be able to get Boots to put it on you at a counter- so eg No7, or Fenty, or Benefit, or whatever brand they have a counter in (will have to be a big Boots).

For high street brands they won't put these on for you, you'll have to test yourself in the shop or buy and take your chances at home.

The former will be much more expensive than the latter. On a counter you could pay £50 for a foundation, £20 per concealer, highlighter and contour (you don't mention contour in your list but I assume you want this if you want to do contouring!). Brushes on a counter will be about £20 each, and you'll probably want a different one for each step.

High street stuff in the main part of the shop- maybe £10 per thing.
