I love the idea of brightening up an outfit with a scarf and hopefully looking a bit trendier , but I am a scarf virgin.
I have spent hours looking at scarves and ended up buying a multi coloured stripey one from per una. When I got home and tried it on it looks really frumpy iykwim. It is a bit sort of stiff and feels far too big and in your face .
I am 43 shortish and wonder if I should start with a smaller scarf - how do you tie it so it looks casual , do i keep it on when I take my jacket off. Hoped it would smarten up t-shirts etc. Any ideas please

I love scarfs. make sure the colour suits you eg hold it up against you in the shop, if it makes you look more pretty, then good, if it makes you look ill, bad. if you have a long neck then good - wear the scarf showing a little bit of neck - or you'll look like a rugby player.

get luxurious fabrics eg get a lovely casmere or silk or something you couldn't afford a whole outfit of. you can get brilliant ones in charity shops.

You need to put in on like you have just threw it on. But, obviously you'd have spent a hour getting it to look like that.
My advice? Set your alarm clock earlier.

cocolepew · 04/04/2008 16:23

Is it a woolly scarf or a silky one?

colette · 04/04/2008 17:13

Thanks for the clips cod - i might look at her website as well when I get kids in bed.I like the way she has tied the scarves except for the "almost a bow one"
mitfordsisters the colours of the one I got were good, lilac/aqua etc but the stripes and the sort of stiff chiffonish feel were not. I had not thought of looking in charity shops good idea - I looked on oasis websites and some scarves were £25

cocolepew I try that effect with my hair and can't seem to get it righteither. Scarfs I want to get are more cottonish. Am being hassled by ds must cook

Thanks a lot for the replies
