Wedding guest shoe and general crisis..!

A close relative is getting married in August, and I'm having a shoe crisis (and therefore an outfit crisis).

I'm 41, 5'3 on a tall day, size 12 pear shape. I don't like getting my legs out, will definitely choose something below knee length.

Anyway, I'm worried that anything will look a bit meh or frumpy if I wear flat shoes? But, for various reasons relating to my body being a bit fucked nowadays, I can't wear heels, and especially not for a long standing up type day. I've always struggled with shoes, I'm a size 5-5.5 but I've got bony feet and ankles, long toes, and just generally struggle to find a good fit. You know those pretty little sandals with beaded straps attached to a flat little plank in high street type shops - no chance, they rub blisters immediately or just don't fit in the first place.

So, can anyone recommend a pair of flat wedding-worthy shoes which are actually comfortable!?

And if I do find some flats, any guidance on outfit style would be very gratefully received! I was thinking long would be better for the shoes, but maybe I am a bit short for that..?

Generous enough budget within reason. Maybe £250 all in, but it depends how desperate I get..!

Heels are not currently fashionable. So people wear flat shoes for all sorts of events and no one is surprised to see any type of outfit being worn with flat shoes.

Which means you don’t need to identify any particular type of dress or whatever to accommodate flat shoes. You just pick an outfit you like and buy some shoes you want to wear with it. Or vice versa.

What is the context of the wedding and what would you like to wear? And where do you usually shop - online or in person, new or pre-owned?

This is cute and the beautiful fabric and straightforward shape would enable it to slot into a more everyday wardrobe. And still leave a few pennies for some cheap and comfy ‘occasion’ shoes.

This dress is 100% cotton. Very pretty and could if necessary be shortened at the waist, to preserve the scalloped hem.

The Massimo Dutti below would suit a less formal event and leave more for shoes.

Thank you 😊

I think I need to start ordering some things and see what works. It's reassuring that there are some nice flats out there!

Have a look at Esska shoes. Their Charlie shoes are so comfortable- I wore them to a wedding and could walk easily without wobble and then danced the night away.

My daughter got married last weekend; she said, Mum, you can wear whatever you like, Crocs or DMs as she know that years of tottering around on 4in heels in the 80s messed my feet up. ☺️

My feet are wide and bony, so, yes, I live in DMs and Crocs but I wanted something 'nicer' for the wedding and those styles didn't match my dress.

I like Hotter shoes and sandals. I sent for these gold Lake shoes but they weren't deep enough over the toes.

I wore Catskills II in Sage. They are so comfortable and I was complemented on the day.

The last thing you want is to have painful feet on a special day.

(I am old so if they seem hideous to all you whippersnappers I apologise!)

I hope you have as much fun at the wedding as we did, it was a wonderful day! 💖

I have similar feet though more of a 6 and I like Dune shoes, so maybe something like this:

Pointed toes elongate the leg. I don't like buying things for weddings I can't wear again as it seems a waste. I'd probably wear with a trouser suit in a bright colour or bright trousers and a shirt.

Ahh how lovely, I'm glad you had a wonderful day, and congratulations to your daughter @SadCelticBunny !

I'll check out Dune and all of the links and have a bit of a spend up....😄

OP if you are concerned about looking stumpy due to being shorter and pear shaped then choosing a more substantial flat will balance you out more than a super flat flat.

I have the world’s most awkward to get shoes for feet, think operations, physio, acupuncture etc. I went to a wedding last July and wore my most comfy pair of pink sketcher sandals and planned my outfit around the shoes. I bought a lovely midi dress that had some of the same pink colour and other pink accessories. About three quarters of the female guests also wore either flats or a tiny heel so try not to worry about footwear.
Wear whatever is comfortable.
