If you don't need them and don't like them and feel sick about it, take them back.

anorak · 04/04/2008 14:57

Well you could take them back, couldn't you?

cyanarasamba · 04/04/2008 14:57

Yes take them back - a friend of mine does this all the time, buys things, takes home and tries with other things in her wardrobe then it they're not right takes them back. The shop should be fine with it.

WigWamBam · 04/04/2008 14:58

Take them back and see if they will refund your money. They may refuse to do so, in which case you're stuck with the tops, but they might give you a refund.

And then resolve to trust your own taste and judgement about this clothes shop rather than buying things just because your friends are raving about it!

DirtySexyMummy · 04/04/2008 14:59

Don't worry.

Everyone has little periods where they spend a bit too much on something. I do this all the time. Its not immature, its normal. I bought a skirt last week for £110 that I do really like, but know won't be worn much. I felt a bit sick about spending so much on one skirt, but I love it now and am glad I did.

If you don't like them, return them. Otherwise, think of it as a treat and look forward to wearing them.

mummydoc · 04/04/2008 15:07

thank you - have thoguth about going back and saying changed mind but feeling a bit silly with myself to be honest for so immature in the first place - but glad to hear dirtysexmummy does similar thing, and i di dthink that really i should get them home see if i like them more and then keep them and enjoy wearing them damm it! soem of it stems from insecurity as they are quite a diffeent thing to what i would usually buy but am quite d ifferent shape now so have lost touch with what suits me really. thanks for your comments

Yes just take them back - if you feel you need an excuse, say you have tried them on again at home and they don't look quite right, don't go with your other clothes as you had planned, or whatever. If not a refund, you should get a credit note.

I do know what you mean about that sick feeling - I've bought things I don't really want, especially when I'm trying to find a particular thing and can't find it and settle for something that's not quite right. I try to only buy things if I adore them... I ask myself would I still want this if it was £500, would I still want it if I saw it in a charity shop, and do I think I'll still have it in 5 years? Another good tactic is to walk away and only get it is you still want it when you go back a 2nd or 3rd time.

Also, a change of style can invoke nervous feelings in anyone. I often wear things that are quite 'unusual' and when I buy them I normally feel quite excited, but when I am leaving the house can feel a bit sick with nerves, incase I actually look a bit stupid!

Thankfully, that does not really happen now as I have built myself up a great confidence from doing it and getting a generally great reception. So, wear your lovely new clothes with confidence!

rebelmum1 · 04/04/2008 15:18

Yes yes I always do it and I try on at home again and if I don't like take them back! It's not final just a rash decision.

Niecie · 04/04/2008 15:21

Try and take it back but if the worst comes to the worst you could get some of the money back by selling on ebay. Talk up the designer/boutique bit and start at a decent price you would be prepared to part with them for and you might get a fair bit of money back if you are lucky.

Well done on your weight loss though. If you can afford them, think of the tops as a prize for all your hard work. You deserve it.

rebelmum1 · 04/04/2008 15:42

Yes you can always get rid on ebay, i check their first these days once I've spotted an item - there's lots of never been worn clothes so you're definitely not alone.

OrmIrian · 04/04/2008 15:46

Take them back. No point if you don't like them. I've done that too - got carried away and come home with things I'll never wear. If you'd bought something you really love you'd not feel sick, you'd feel great.

callmewhatyoulike · 04/04/2008 15:51

I think most of us have done it before, I know I have.

Take them back. The shops staff honestly wont care why if you still have the receipt (and withing their stated time frame - usually 28/30 days). Just say you want to return them for a refund and they will do just that.

WigWamBam · 04/04/2008 16:06

Be aware that they don't have to give a refund, even if you do have the receipt. Some shops give refunds, but because your goods are "fit for purpose" they aren't obliged to just because you've changed your mind.

brimfull · 04/04/2008 21:04

keep them-you deserve it after losing all that weight!

Stop feeling guilty and enjoy them!
