I hate how I dress and look sometimes

Most of my 20's I went through a very depressed somewhat unhappy phase. This has also led to a lot of comfort eating and not taking the best care of myself. Prior to that, I was a very healthy weight and actually liked myself. I basically live in black leggings and any basic tops. I have 0 fashion sense and I'm sick of seeing the same clothes.

I want to get back to my soft girl and feminine era. However, I have no clue how to 🤷🏽 any tips would be greatly appreciated.. a

I am done feeling "comfortable". I want to feel sexy again ..

Could you start off swapping out the leggings for a style of skirt you'd feel comfy in? Have a wander round the shops and see if anything takes your fancy. There's everything out there at the mo. in all lengths. A line, straight and clingy, tiered and flouncy. Amazon is good because you can you can send it all back if you don't like it and there's lots of reviews with pics.

My kids laugh at me because i have to ease myself into summer skirts every year by wearing my couple of maxi length tube skirts. With a vest top. As soon as we have a hot day out come these specific two skirts and i'm in them for a day or two and it's ok because it's a shape i'm comfy with and you still can't see my legs 😂

It only takes a couple of outings in them before i've got my legs sorted out (bit of self tan and a shave)(not everyone feels the need obvs) and i'm in my shorter skirts and shorts.

Dresses come after that.

Perhaps you can begin in a similar way?

I wouldn't mind trying out dresses more than skirts because of my weight I feel I don't look good. I find when I've had a bit of a fake tan, it definitely gives a confidence boost 😀. I had plans to lose weight and started going to the gym only to find out I am pregnant so now I have to deal with being big and pregnant and try to style myself 😩 ..

Ah - I was going to ask what clothes size you wear, but that may not be relevant right now!

Why not have a look at

Beyond Nine

which makes excellent clothes for pregnancy and beyond. Not the very cheapest but may provide inspiration.

Oh thank you, that's very helpful! I've been looking at different clothes shops and struggled to find ones that don't just show slim bodies

Hi I'm like a broken record on the style threads but if you haven't already look up David Kibbie I think his style guide will help anyone, not just to dress but to figure out their 'vibe' as well. His guide isn't based in shape but on bone structure and vibe and it's really helped me buy clothes that actually look good on me but that still make me feel comfortable. Wish I had found it earlier in my life but hey ho.

Thank you, I will have a look shortly. I did consider paying someone to shop and style lol because I don't really know what my "look" is yet but hopefully I discover it really soon

Vinted and second hand is your friend whilst you figure it out. I like a Broderie Anglais top and jeans combo with espidrilles/ wedges.

I actually decided to treat myself today. I got some stuff that I wouldn't usually wear because I am always trying to hide my body but thought I have to start somewhere. I also got some fake tan and new jewellery just to fit cute.

@butterflywingss Thats good!

Split it down into 2 phases:

Phase 1 - research to define what you want to look like. Go for coffee / lunch / a walk in your nearest busy town or shopping area and just look at women who are similar shape / size that you think look good. Note what shapes / items they are wearing. Accessories. What is that makes them look good?? Start building a clear mental picture of the looks that you like.

The bigger the city the better variety of looks you will get.

Then (and only then) I'd briefly try internet for some inspiration but definitely start and major on real people living life!!

Phase 2 - write your list of the key pieces that feature in most of what you like. Specifically the colour / shape / cut etc so currently on my list I have 'boxy black T shirt' and 'sloppy slouchy peach loose knit jumper'

Then either hit Vinted or actual shops to start buying!

Personally I find a bang up to date pair of shoes transforms a lot of very old clothes to more up to date look - I've just got chunky Fila trainers. Then make sure you have a staple pair of jeans / jean shorts that are again in an up to date silhouette. That means a lot of your existing tops can be used.

Good luck!
