Rosacea

I've always had sensitive skin, but since reaching 30's/40's I have what I can only assume is Rosacea on my face. It gets worse with alcohol, spicy food and sunlight. I use Rosalique which although great at covering it, doesn't do anything to get rid of it.

The doctors have prescribed Doxycycline 100mgs, however, I'm reluctant to take them after reading up on the side effects.

Has anyone taken these with successful stories of them actually helping get rid of/or reduce rosacea symptoms.

I'm beginning to feel quite desperate and sad about it. Thank you.

I used Soolantra from gp, after reading so many good things about it on mumsnet, it’s a cream. Worked brilliantly.

Grumblygrey · 16/05/2024 09:54

Thank you LuckyCharmz, I will look into that.

Mine disappeared when I quit alcohol. Disappeared completely.

Husband has just come off them after 8 months. Completely wrecked his gut and possibly liver. Awaiting scans. He is now trying sulphur soap and ivermetcin horse paste (topically) .

That's horrific, I'm so sorry to hear that.

I think I will be looking at alternative avenues to Doxycycline, I don't like using antibiotics etc for short peiods of time, never mind over the course of 3 months.

I fear this is the route I may have to take.....

I've already cut back considerably, but boy do I know about it when I have had a drink. My face actually stings.

Prescription treatment from dermatica sorted mine.

Have recently started this myself. Only a month in but already seeing a huge difference.

Cerave cleanser and moisturiser all but cured mine, I don't have spots just redness. I also need to be very careful with SPF as that can irritate.

I’m a tea addict as md tea unfortunately inflames it so if I keep that and sugar under control for a few days and drink tons of water it all but goes (I get that I’m lucky in this). Spf 365 days a year (very important), I use Roche posay, Cetaphil wash and avene skin soothing cream works for me, primers I use that don’t aggravate are Aimee Connolly and I also use mac spray fx. (I use clarins cc or Vichy make up. I literally can’t mess with this combo!!!

In my amateur trials (me buying everything under the sun while my skin burnt!!), anything that says for roseacea or implies it aggrevates my skin- Roche posay, avene etc, and a lot of pharmacy staff will direct you to these products, which is fair enough as everyone is different.

best of luck op, amazing when you get a break from it x

That sounds like mine, no spots, just a block redness on my chin (and cheeks/forehead at it's worst). I'll pick some of this up whilst waiting to get into the Doctors. Thanks.

I had laser treatment at the dermatologist which cost a few hundred but really worked beautifully. This has 2 years ago and it’s starting to creep back so I may have it again. I have prescription metronytozole (sp? Brand name metro gel in US) and this helps too. I also quit drinking.

DoneAndNotDusted · 16/05/2024 10:56

I get rosacea too. I would try a topical application before taking tablets as it's far less invasive. In the past I've had Financea from the GP, more recently Soolantra also from GP (as a pp said, I had read about it on here too!). Soolantra can take a while to work so need to be patient if you don't see results straight away.
As pp said, use SPF50 which is important in any case, but even more so with rosacea.

Grumblygrey · 16/05/2024 11:07

Thanks everyone. Some great suggestions to look into and try here. Really appreciate you all taking the time to reply and help.

Soolantra sorted mine almost overnight (can just order from an online pharmacy). Much depends on the cause, if its dermodex, then soolantra or ivermectin will work for you.

FoofOfTheWalkingDead · 16/05/2024 11:42

I have had rosacea for about 15 years. I've tried Soolantra, Rosalique, Roc and a few other topical treatments but they all made it irritated. I've been too scared to take antibiotics or try lasering. I finally found Clinique's redness solutions range and have used it religiously for years. It is the only thing that doesn't irritate.

The Clinique RS foundation is amazing at covering the red. In summertime I have used their city block 40spf as a foundation and sunscreen all in one and it is great. La Roche Posay 50spf tinted sunscreen is also amazing and much less expensive.

More recently the Redness Solutions cleanser has been out of stock so I tried Dr Jart cicapair cleanser and their redness cream. They both work amazingly well. Not surprisingly, Dr Jart is owned by Clinique.

Curlyhaired · 16/05/2024 12:12

Rosalique and cheaper altruist anti redness have helped me. I know rosalique is meant to treat it too. I don't really drink much these days but the sulphates in wine always made me really red!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 16/05/2024 18:28

Rosalique made me the colour of an Ooma Loompa ,looked dreadful. Revolution green face base is excellent and similar to Dr Jart but much cheaper and a huge pot.
