Lacura hot cloth cleanser - any good?

So I recently got gifted some Liz Earle hot cloth cleanser and it’s great. I love that it’s mildly exfoliating and my night moisturiser seems to do a much better job if I put it on after it.

But I don’t want to pay that much for a cleanser. Is the Aldi dupe any good?

Yes it's very good. I also used to use LE but use Lacura in a lean month. It's got an almost identical texture and the smell is nice too.

Thanks so much for answering. Is the cloth as exfoliating?

The cloth's pretty much the same - but if you've used LE you can just reuse that one? I prefer flannels personally. I like the Lacura one, the smell is a bit different but it does the job. You can sometimes get Liz Earle stuff from TK Maxx too for a cheaper price, they had some in my local one a couple of days ago.

supercalafragilisticexpealidocious · 16/05/2024 12:25

Yes the cloth is very similar but as others have said you can just use a LE cloth if you prefer. My new favourite cloths are these soft ones from boots though- not a muslin but seem to remove make up very well.

GoldDuster · 16/05/2024 12:33

It's fine for the price certainly. I've got both and the LE one I prefer the smell of, but other than that pretty much no difference. Prefer facecloth/flannel to the muslins.

Storminagoblet · 16/05/2024 12:37

I'm not a fan but don't seem to like the new LE as much as the old. I prefer Elemis but it's so pricey

I have just discovered the Waitrose Pure brand hot cloth cleanser and it is lovely. Not at all expensive, vegan, great for my sensitive/allergic skin and you only need a tiny amount.
It is quite thick, but you need a pea sized amount and it softens and melts as you apply it.
I have bought the shower gel and moisturiser this week. I usually use Aveeno but it is getting very expensive and the Waitrose one is much cheaper.

Thanks, I will have a look for this today!

The Superdrug naturally radiant one is a great dupe for Liz Earle and left my skin feeling really nice. https://www.superdrug.com/skin/face-skin-care/cleansers/hot-cloth-cleansing/superdrug-naturally-radiant-hot-cloth-face-cleanser-150ml/p/516251

I have ahem "mature skin", in my 70s. I have been using the Aldi one for years,as has my youngest DD. The cloth isn't exfoliating.

fiftyandfat · 16/05/2024 13:38

The Waitrose one is very gently exfoliating. Made with oat seeds and avocado oil, grapeseed and shea butter. Skin feels lovely and soft after using. I don't have shares in Waitrose btw. I was looking at the Aveeno shower gel and wondering when they would have a special offer.

LoobyDop · 16/05/2024 19:38

I’m not a fan of the Aldi one, largely because it’s stuffed full of eucalyptus oil. It smells really strong, would sting your eyes and there is no skincare benefit in including it. I suspect they’ve used it because it smells similar to tea tree but costs less. Haven’t tried the Waitrose Pure one, but the micellar water in that range is one of very few that doesn’t sting me, and it’s cheap as chips.

JJJJuniper · 16/05/2024 19:39

The Superdrug one is very good

Lwrenn · 16/05/2024 20:06

I'm only here to recommend superdrug one also, the aldi has given me a breakout which is rare because I usually suit aldi but the superdrug one is terrific and is on offer quite a bit.

PinkBlossom13 · 16/05/2024 20:13

Honestly, this is my holy grail. Like you I had a sample of the LE in a calendar and fell in love with it for my ever oily skin and couldn't really justify the expense and then found one in Asda by NSPA which I loved and bought for years until it was abruptly discontinued and my husband found the aldi one. In fairness, I stumbled on the other 'flavours' in the special buys and have tried them all.

there is

Pineapple
Rose
VItamin C
Original

I love them all but the only one I can get hold on the regular is the original. I haven't found anything I love as much xx

BettyOBarley · 16/05/2024 20:20

I love the Lacura one, probably more than LE!

I have mild Rosacea - the LE aggravates it, Aldi doesn't.

Echobelly · 16/05/2024 20:24

Yeah, I really like the Lacura one - nice scent and texture and your skin feels really good after. Works fine on my dry, sensitive skin

JustGettingStarted · 16/05/2024 20:29

I think the Aldi stuff is just as good as the LE.

As for the cloths - I now have piles of them. I bought a pack of three baby muslins and cut them into quarters, giving me 12. Add the ones I've accumulated with the products over the last few years and I have oodles. I use a fresh one every time I wash my face and just toss it in the laundry.

choccytime · 16/05/2024 20:33

Liz Earle one is lovely , and I would use all the time if I could afford it but the Aldi one is very good . Use with a clean flannel each time better than the muslin cloths

FreebieWallopFridge · 16/05/2024 20:44

I’m not a fan. On my skin, I find it stripping, the scent is too strong, and it irritates my skin (sore, red, itchy).

JulietSierra · 16/05/2024 20:50

Does anyone use these hot cloth cleansers to take off eye makeup? I do, but always wonder if they’re a bit too harsh for the eye area.

Seagrassbasket · 16/05/2024 20:54

Thanks very much everyone! I’ll be looking out for each one recommended and trying them all!

Petroleum Jelly to remove waterproof eye makeup, recommended by a plastic surgeon, great on round the eye area. I'm 73 and hardly a crows foot in sight.

Ichangedmynameonce · 16/05/2024 23:06

Superdrug own brand vitamin e hot cloth cleanser us excellent. Sali Hughes often recommends

No, I don’t like the bleary feeling that lotions leave in the eyes. Has to be micellar water for me. Although I’ve never found one that’s really effective- I always have smears under my eyes the next day, no matter how thoroughly I think I’ve removed everything.
