Brazilian / Hollywood wax

Hi everyone!

I'm pretty fed up of shaving, and hair removal creams aren't for me.

I'm planning on getting laser in the next few years but I have other things that need paying for before that.

I'm thinking about getting my pubic hair waxed but for some reason I'm nervous about the pain. My friend (beautician) told me to not go when I'm on my period as pain threshold is lower, not that I would go on my period anyway.

I've booked to have it done now. How painful is it? How long does it last? I'm having Lyon wax instead of wax strips.

Any tips please? Am I in for excruciating pain?

I'm fine with eyebrow / arm / leg waxes but I think this is a whole different kettle of fish!

The first time is the worst, after the second it gets a bit like a walk in the park. You just chat as it’s being done in a similar way to a hairdressers.

As a newbie, l suggest you take a couple of paracetamol beforehand (I don’t bother any more) and as well as avoiding your period l would avoid a few days just before as well. Finally, don’t have sex the same day. It soon settles down afterwards. Good luck and enjoy the smooth you. x

Honestly, it’s terrible. Good luck!

Remember that any wax is only as good as its beautician.

I had my first one in years a couple of weeks ago. It honestly wasn’t as bad as I’d feared. Beautician was great and apart from a couple of ouch moments, we talked through the whole thing. Good luck!

Paracetamol beforehand (if you're not used to it). It's not so bad though. You just need a good beautician.

I was petrified the first time, but while it was uncomfortable at points, it hasn’t stopped me getting them again. I love the results. Good luck

Go to a place that specialises in intimate waxing. Agree with @StarlightLady - much easier when someone is proficient in what they are doing.

(FWIW - I found underarm waxing way more painful than a Brazilian)

I promise you it’s not nearly as bad as you imagine. I was terrified the first time I ever had one, I even cancelled once! Plucked up the courage to rebook, took a paracetamol and went. Some areas are a very slight ouch but even that is gone within seconds. I left feeling so stupid that I had never done it years before because I imagined it would be agony and it really wasn’t!

To add to my previous comments, it’s better than the dentist.

Extremely hairy woman here! Just had mine done yesterday and am currently 5 months pregnant- it’s not bad at all- if you take some paracetamol and stretch the skin taut- the anticipation is worse! I find it painful around and above my knees for some reason but it’s a short lived pain. I also had my bum and lower back waxed too haha! I was dreading it as I’m more sensitive to pain since pregnancy but it’s fine honestly! X

SaveMeFromMyBoobs · 16/05/2024 10:09

I found an awesome waxer, barely hurt at all. I could talk through it and not skip in the convo when it was pulled. Period or not, pregnant or not. One day she wasn't available so I went elsewhere and omg same wax but it was so painful my eyes were watering! It's all about the waxer!

MugsGames · 16/05/2024 10:11

It smarts a bit but it’s ok. At least it’s quick!

My would be to go to a proper waxing place not just a beautician who does the odd wax. I also prefer this from an embarrassment perspective.

Had a hollywood years ago. 1st no problem, 2nd time was so bad I never did it again. I think it was the beautician though she went over the same area a couple of times ans the wax was too warm. Ended up with some minor burns and not in the area you'd want!
