bags for remote work?

I need a decent hand bag that is good for remote work. I'm really struggling to find something that fits the bill.
When in the office I don't have a dedicated desk and I work with an external team so i have to cart all my stuff in and out each week and there is no option of stashing anything there. (I literally have to hope someone is off so i don't have to hot desk in the break room. Many annoyances with this set up but all that's for another thread)

Requirements for this bag are:

  • nothing too fancy or "business-y" - it's a casual environment but my style is not sporty either.
  • big enough to hold a 15 inch laptop and plenty of room for chargers, mouse, coffee cup, head-set... (and all the other nonsense i seem to need to work effectively)
  • comfortable. i like a shoulder bag that i can reach in and just grab my fob/phone rather than having to take a back pack off to access anything... but at this stage i'll consider anything.
  • budget is generous. i'm willing to consider this an investment because of how much it will improve my life (my bag situation has been bugging me for years)

I hate shopping and browsing and always seem to only find things that aren't quite right that i end up regretting and wasting money on so I'm counting on you mumsnet hive mind!

Hi OP, did you find something that fitted the bill? I'm looking for something similar.

I know it’s ubiquitous, but the LV neverfull is the best bag for this. I live somewhere hot, so it doesn’t matter that it doesn’t close, but I don’t know how it would be in the rain.

Agree with @AgentProvocateur - I have an LV Never Full and it easily fits all the stuff you mentioned. I used it as my work bag for ages and my baby bag with my last. Another option is the Longchamp Le Pliage - I’ve had several over the last ten years and use them as my primary bag when I’m traveling for work. I like that they come in many colors, are sturdy and well made and can take a battering. They are also smart enough to take to meetings and look professional. The mid sized one is also very spacious - fits everything you said you needed it to.

Thanks for suggestions! The LV neverfull looks like it’s a little bit too ‘structured’ for the way i’d use it. I got a kate spade one in a similar shape a while ago and found it became a bit uncomortable and heavy. I guess i’m kind of looking for something that is more ‘hobo bag’ style that has a strap short enough to be one shoulder but could go cross-body (albeit snuggly).
I know i’ve seen ‘convertible’ bags that you can kind of turn in to a back pack or shoulder bag but bit sceptical that they wont be very good/comfortable as either style. Also cant remember any brands.

@Ifyouinsistthen longchamp seems like it’s definitely worth considering. Seems like you can get it in fabric with a bit more ‘flex’. I’m wondering if it’s still a bit ‘classy’ for my look though. I dont know how to describe my style but the best i can think of is ‘intentionally scruffy’ 😂 (probably another reason why i didn’t feel great about the kate spade bag)

@Sleepybumble just noticed recommendations for roka bags in another thread. Bit on the sportier end but might be worth a look.
