Period Swimsuit

DD is 13 (she has ASD and is non-verbal) and I believe she's on the cusp of getting her period.

We're traveling for a month to a beach destination and I want to be prepared in case it happens abroad, as she would be devastated to miss out on a single moment on the sea and pool.

Does anyone have recommendations for an effective, leak proof brand please?

I have period pants, but have never used a swimsuit.

Thanks!

Hey

I'm a huge fan of Wuka. They are incredibly absorbent and I've used the swimsuits regularly whilst on my period.

You simply rinse them out after use and they're ready to use again. I'd recommend not wearing it all day but to perhaps change after swimming if flow is heavy.

I also use the period pants and they are great. You might find these a better option for your DD as they'll be easier for her to use.

I also have a discount code (it is an affiliate just being upfront) if you'd like it. My code is EXPLOREWITHETHAN2021

I've seen recommendations for the primark range for teens but not tried them myself.

Ohh that's a brilliant idea, thanks!

Wouldn’t the swimsuit and period pants be quite bulky worn together?

rwa818 · 15/05/2024 15:50

@ImNotThereAmI no the period bikini bottoms aren't bulky at all they just look like normal bikini bottoms, you could wear any black bikini top with them, my DD just prefers to wear a one piece for swimming lessons

I second Modi Bodi - I have the pants & they are so nice to wear.

Well this blows my mind even more, so these things actually stop blood leaking into the water, and they have no bulk? How do they work?? My daughter’s heavy flow period pants are really quite bulky but maybe the swim ones are different somehow?

@ImNotThereAmI - most period swimwear is not recommended for heavy flows

e.g. Wuka

Thanks for this information as I have been considering them for myself. I hate missing DD pre school swim sessions when I’m on my period- particularly as they are not cheap! Also I swim sometimes as part of my job a few times a month so I’m always crossing my fingers hoping it doesn’t clash.
OP the period delay tablet someone suggest may be a good idea but it’s possible the GP will be reluctant to prescribe it for someone with your daughters needs- I know we had a problem with a child a worked with who was non-verbal as they couldn’t consent. However worth a try as may be GP dependent

Thought I'd update in case it helps anyone.

We're just back from 3 weeks holiday and DD did get her period and as luck would have it it was actually quite heavy and long!

We went with WUKA in the end (a plain black one piece) and it was sheer perfection. Not a single issue in the sea or pool. Very pleased!

Only just seen this post OP but wanted to second the Wuka swimwear. We got the plain black swim shorts, as they looked more secure round the legs. They worked great! Absolutely no leaks even on medium days.

We actually got two identical Wuka shorts and paired them with a plain black shorts style ordinary swim set. You can’t tell the Wuka period ones are different at all, so swapping them over was easy.
