Please help me - Mother of Groom, Woodland wedding.

Please help me 😬. My son is getting married in just under two weeks. Woodland outdoor wedding but still formal ish, two separate ceremonies on consecutive days, day 1 legal, lower key smaller/shorter gathering, followed by day 2 blessing and main celebratory reception. So I’m doing two outfits.

Dress a (green), this is a definite for day 1.

Dress b (blue), I love this. Showed my son and he really loved it. I sent it back once as had second thoughts, I love it, it also feels very me, just not sure it says ‘woodland’, but I’ve now ordered it again 😂.

I’m still open to other suggestions. I live in dresses so very comfortable wearing. I’m 54, 5ft 4”, size 10/small 12, not sleeveless/very short sleeve (want to hide upper arms), prefer midi length, fit and flare or bias cut (pref not wrap/tiered/frills/asymmetric). I like green, red , blue but open. Budget, £200 ish, could go £300-400 for something completely fabulous.

Struggling with shoes, would prefer one pair to go with both but that might be difficult) maybe a chunky sandal, perhaps a statement colour (anything other than black), high-ish but stable and comfy? - venue is rustic with some uneven ground. On a previous visit I saw a poor woman struggling in high wedges and she actually fell over quite spectacularly…other than trainers or sandals I don’t much like flats, but also don’t want that to be me.

Something for my hair? Long thick curly hair, down or half-up on day one (I’m doing it so limited skill), salon up-do on day 2. Would like a fancy hair accessory, e.g. small hair clip style (def not headband) fascinator or really lovely statement hair clip. Not sure on colour, happy to buy 2.

Might also need a wrap if chilly in eve.

Had breast cancer/mastectomy, awaiting re-do of failed reconstruction, lost a bit of confidence, first of my children to get married and this is my first really dressed up occasion since. I’d love to feel amazing so would love some helpful advice and suggestions. Thanks. 😊

@Absurdgiraffe I literally showed that Liberty dress to my dd yesterday…I keep going back to it, I think it’s stunning. It’s over budget and I’m trying to be sensible and think about rewearing, but it’s beautiful. A different colour that I also loved went in the sale yesterday but I missed it in my size unfortunately.

The blue dress is gorgeous, bottom.of it is colour of bluebells, come evening time it will look even more gorgeous with the dark inky colours.

Go for it!

@howlismoving I really love Self Portrait dresses. I lost a huge amount of weight 4 years ago and I’m quite self conscious of how this has left the top of my arms and back of thighs so I ruled then out. I will still wear short sleeve things, but I just think for a really special occasion I’d rather not be thinking about that.

These shoes - Esska Charlie.

Insanely comfy and will cope brilliantly with uneven ground. Come in loads of colours.

I had those on my radar already, so will definitely order now. Thanks.

I love the blue one, it's gorgeous!
Can I ask where it's from please?
I'm also going to a wedding end of May, on a beach.

It’s from Karen Millen 😊

Depending where you are Op, I have heard we're getting a bit of a heatwave end of May, so worth keeping an eye on the weather.

That occurred to me..I want the weather to be perfect for them, especially as there’s very little cover at the venue if it rains but I’m plagued with constant hot flushes and run hot anyway so don’t want to overheat. I’ve got a portable fan 😀.

I have the Esska heels. They are super comfy and I've happily worn them all day to garden parties and weddings, but I'd be concerned that in woodland you could easily misstep and turn your ankle

Stunning dress!

DestinyIsAll · 13/05/2024 22:24

Thank you for all the responses/suggestions, they’re really helpful. @Sadsadworld I will definitely be dancing!

Though you can’t see it the sleeves on the blue dress are sheer and it’s not as actually heavy as it looks but I’ll put it on again and try to properly gauge if it might be too hot with the high neck.

Both days are at the woodland venue, but we aren’t in the proper wooded area for long, after the ceremony parts we move to mainly grassy or flatter areas. From my memory of a previous visit the wood area isn’t particularly muddy or very uneven, I’d just need to be more careful. I believe they put down (old) rugs to walk/stand on too and there is bench seating. I could maybe take a flatter spare pair in case.

I found sage tablets from A.Vogel dealt with hot flushes - have you tried them?

Edited

The blue dress is beautiful with silver. Personally I'm not keen on this Liberty dress at all🤦‍♀️My thoughts are it would be like trying far too hard to fit in with the woodland theme.

Have a wonderful day 😁

HaystackHair · 13/05/2024 23:44

Love both dresses. Are you confident that if it rains, the same shoes will be OK for day 2? You could order, and return if unused, a spare pair.

I’m on tamoxifen (cancer drug), sage tablets are not advised while taking.

@MavisTheMonkey wow that blue floral Coast dress is amazing!

I agree, beautiful. OP the original blue dress is a bit dark and wintry was my immediate thought.

LightDrizzle · 14/05/2024 10:59

God! I love the blue one. I agree that it is quite ethereal so I think fine for a woodland wedding if you wanted. I think wearing your long curls loose would also fit with the theme. You will look stunning!

Bignanna · 14/05/2024 14:22

It reminds me of a leek!

Absurdgiraffe · 14/05/2024 14:36

@Bignanna I wondered what it reminded me of!

I like leeks.

I’m on tamoxifen (cancer drug), sage tablets are not advised while taking.

I'm also on cancer drugs (Letrezole) and I was suffering terribly with hot flushes until someone in the Facebook Breast Cancer group suggested asking for Clonidine from the GP. It has transformed my life. I was changing the soaking bed sheets every night the flushes were that bad and it's all stopped.
