I’m going mad! Sandals for painful bunion feet - which are best.

These would be for work … need to be smart ish but it’s not mega formal. I’ve been researching for HOURS.
I need room for large arthritic bunions , lots of firm arch support , ankle strap ideally. I have narrow heels and ankles so can’t get “wide fit” anything.

I’d be wearing with skirts with plain t-shirts tucked in.

some of these are more “walking sandals” but the best I can come with !

Any good?

There is a company someone recommended on here called Sole Bliss, I havent got bunions and not sure how some of their shoes would accommodate them but apparently they are specialised

You need to pop over to the sandals for hiding toes thread.

Some of the recommendations there are wide and would cover bunions. I bought Hotter shore shoes which are basically wide fit buckle Mary janes thanks to the thread and I have tailor's bunions. The straps can compensate for slim ankles. (I'm going to have to punch an extra hole!)

@soupfiend thank you so much - I really like the style of those, the ones I saw on Amazon uk had quite poor reviews. I will check Sole Bliss - thanks :)

I feel your pain with the bunions. I have the Terra sandals and they are fantastic. A bit expensive to buy - and rarely much off in the sales - but they last ages and are soooo easy to wear. I live in them in the spring/summer/autumn in Aus. They are very washable too.

CyanBird · 12/05/2024 09:34

Thanks @DontForgetTheYakMilk I have ordered some Teva Tirras to try … and a pair of heavenly feet fisherman style ones (not optimistic about the toe box on those).

Have a look at Vionic. Not the cheapest, but designed for feet with bunions. Don't have any sandals from them but I have some of their brogues - really comfortable with good arch support.

CyanBird · 12/05/2024 18:05

Fully adjustable toe box and ankles, padded straps, firm arch support - absolute bliss ! These are the Teva Tirras. Im keeping the! So comfy for my painful throbbing feet.

I got the ones with the black leather straps so I think with a long skirt and top they’d be passable in my workplace. I’ll report of the Heavenly Feet fisherman style sandals when I get them!

Really to look after your feet and be comfortable, go to a podiatrist, get Orthotics, wave goodbye to sandals and live in trainers - smart ones if needs be for work. The rest of your body will thank you for a better grounded posture.
Hoka are the best imho for sore feet

Cofaki · 12/05/2024 21:59

If your bunions are painful then get a referral to have surgery. I had both of mine done 12 years ago and it was the best thing I ever did. My feet are pain free now and I can wear all the shoes (though I don't really wear heels any more, don't want to cause the bunions again).
Don't live with painful feet when you don't need to.

Eyesopenwideawake · 12/05/2024 22:01

Not relevant for this thread but I had bunion surgery a couple of years ago - very painful for a few weeks but an absolute life changer.

Hi, I think I have the black Skechers ones on the end. The upper part is really cool material and stretchy and they're really comfy. They stay on my foot well, which not all ankle strap sandals do. Would definitely recommend them, very spongy soles. I do have a bunion and struggle to find any shoes apart from trainers, these are really good for summer, will probably get another pair when my current ones wear out.

LilacK · 12/05/2024 22:06

I have these:

Good price at the moment too.

Churchview · 12/05/2024 22:24

I find these sandals so comfortable I bought a second pair. All three straps adjust so you can make the sandal fit perfectly to your foot. Great arch support. I can walk all day in them.

I had bunions surgery on one foot. Was waiting for surgery on the other when someone recommended a podiatrist. She gave me exercises and made an orthotic insole for me. Absolutely changed how my foot felt and I didn't have to have the surgery. I get less pain in my foot with the bunions than I do in the operated foot now.

It's all trial and error with a bunion really annoying

MariaLuna · 17/05/2024 08:13

I have bunions too and had the operation when I was 18. (69 now). Did wonders although one is growing back now.

I discovered Skechers, mentioned upthread. They are amazing. Like walking on cushions. I love them. I do a lot of walking (don't drive, use the excellent public transport we have here, on the continent).

RobinBobbin · 17/05/2024 08:44

Another vote for the Josef Seidel Tonga 25. The straps are infinitely adjustable and the leather is soft. I've got 2 pairs on the go. Also just bought the Tonga 64 for a slip-on style josefseibel.co.uk/products/josef-seibel-tonga-64
