Colour me Beautiful?

Has anyone done this?
I had my colours done last year by House of Colour but not sure how I feel about it, I don't think my consultant was very good. She picked the highest contrast colours and very bright make up, it made me look like an 80s power dressed business woman. She also only told me my main season and said they don't do subseasons much any more!
I thought I'd give it some time but frankly her favourite colours make me look very unhealthy. I was hoping to expand the colours I wear as I seem to still stick to red and blue mostly. Not sure if it's worth bothering at all though.
Do any of you have any experience with CMB or perhaps both CMB and HOC?

No sorry OP but your experience doesn't sound very good. Hope you find something that works better for you Flowers

Dearg · 09/05/2024 16:50

CMB, but many years ago. I was described as a soft autumn, so my pallete includes some muted summer colours and autumnal shades. I still refer to it and I thought it was pretty good. The make up not so much - I have green eyes, but detest obviously green eye shadow - that’s what she picked.

So, I liked the sub divisions of seasons, but I imagine the consultant makes a big difference

I've never heard of this so investigated online. It all seems a bit dated, based on suggesting a few colours and tones.

I don't see how this works in different seasons, e.g. skin tone changes and we all tend to wear lighter/brighter colours in summer?

FondOfOwls · 09/05/2024 16:56

@Enough4me I think Colour Me Beautiful takes your changing skin and hair colours into account.
I felt like a glow up post partum, and let me tell you, those colours really made me glow! Unfortunately, not in a good way!

@Dearg I read of House of Colour here and it made me think it will be great. Instead I could see different colours affecting my complexion, but HOC training seems to emphasize maximum whiteness on the face. I am a light brunette with rosy cheeks, came out with a set of darkest colours I would never wear and a NEON lipstick! Very dated indeed. Not sure if that whole things is a hoax, but I know some colours suit me better than others.

@Enough4me sorry meant to say, they are supposed to give you a range of lighter and darker colours that suit you, but I was left with 50 shades of black and navy, very depressing and I have fair skin and medium hair colour.

Have a look at Emily Innes Stylist on Instagram, very helpful for this sort of thing

Inlimboin50s · 09/05/2024 17:04

I used Emily too. I think I paid £30 and did it online. Warm autumn here.

likepebblesonabeach · 09/05/2024 17:09

I used colour me beautiful op but it was 30 years ago. I got a little white pouch that contained lots of colour swatches. I would think it would be a lot more high tech now though

Enough4me · 09/05/2024 18:43

OP, I can't imagine black/Navy clothes, dark makeup and neon lipstick working unless it's teen club night. I'm wondering if you were unlucky with the rep!?

Sorry I misunderstood.

FondOfOwls · 09/05/2024 18:57

@Enough4me definitely unlucky, I think she was very inexperienced, but double backed when I asked for having another go/said I didn't see what she did.
I was considering going to another HOC representative, but I think they just go for the very 80s style, so might end up with different shades of neon!

CMB were OK but I wouldn't spend the money again. You can work out your colours fairly easily online or via a book and through a bit of experimentation. Ans then book in with a decent makeup artist for a similar price to update your look.

rookiemere · 09/05/2024 19:44

I wouldn't pay for another consultation but I would have a look at the kettlewell website www.kettlewellcolours.co.uk/. Check your season colours- every season should have quite a lot of different colours and shades.
They have a few online quizzes if you feel you have been incorrectly rated. If you spend over £75 you get free delivery so you could buy a few tops and see what genuinely suits your complexion. I'm a spring and there's a couple of items I have - one in a duck egg pale blue, and one is a red coral and they seem to make my features glow.

FondOfOwls · 10/05/2024 10:21

Thank you all. I will probably leave going to someone else, just in case they are as useless. For what it's worth, I think my season is correct, just the best colours she picked seem one step to bright/dark. I already knew that I am the winter type as it's pretty obvious. I will try out some other winter Kettlewell colours.

I feel like a mug for having spent £250 and not even find it useful!
