Young teen make up

DD has been invited to a friend’s birthday party - they are both 13. Friend has said that she likes makeup and sweets, however, I know that her parents aren’t keen on her wearing much make up, and nothing obvious is allowed at school. (Some wear clear mascara and some
older girls wear a little foundation but that’s it - no nail polish allowed also)

DD really wants to get her what’s she’s asked for, but as she wears no make up, and I only put on the basics when absolutely necessary, I have no clue what to buy. I was thinking maybe some nice lip glosses to satisfy the make up request but also keep her parents happy, and then I can get something else to go with them. No clue on brands etc though.

Any recommendations would be very much appreciated!

What sort of budget do you have OP? Dior lip glow oil is absolutely gorgeous and on the wishlist of most teenage girls, I am certainly very jealous of DD’s! It’s around £30.

Lancome have brought Juicy Tubes back out to fit with the early 00s trend and these are also fab, a bit cheaper too

PopcornAndGummyBears · 08/05/2024 19:35

£30 for a lip gloss?!? 🤯 (Can you tell I’m not a make up wearer?!)

Budget for the whole gift is around £20 so would like to spend no more than £10-£15 on make up/lip gloss

Might be an idea to find out if she wants cruelty free.
There's loads out there

As a higher end product my DD loves the Fenty lipglosses (about £19)

For a young teen what about some lip balms > You can get loads , some tinted (Hurraw lip balms are nice )

MissKittyFantastico84 · 08/05/2024 20:13

For that age, I'd recommend ELF (Eyes Lips Face) as a brand. You can get it in Superdrug and it's a reasonable print point too. Nice formulations that might be fun to play with!

As a child of the 90s, I started out with Rimmel and Boots Natural Collection - they're still going so might be worth a look! Probably not very cool though...

longdistanceclaraclara · 08/05/2024 20:28

What about skincare instead, Byoma or Bubble?

timefornewme2023 · 08/05/2024 20:50

I came on to recommend ELF too.
I have a 13 year old DD and she is more than happy with this range - she has a clear lip oil for school and a few other fairly neutral products and she hasn't seemed interested in any other brands.
Worth a look I didn't actually know it was in Superdrug but have ordered online .

My younger teenage nieces are all using an Elf lip oil “glow reviver”. It comes in a variety of shades, the colour is very subtle and I think they’re around £8 each. They’ve talked me into getting a pink-ish one and I actually quite like it myself, perhaps a tiny bit sticky but I’m quite fussy.

Aldi did a dupe of this not so long ago. Out of stock now, of course, but still available on eBay and not even close to that price.

PopcornAndGummyBears · 08/05/2024 21:38

Thanks all. This is really helpful. I‘ll check out ELF - even better that we have a Superdrug locally so I can pop in tomorrow. Really appreciate your help. Will also check out Byoma & Bubble - thanks!

Revolution is also really reasonable and available in superdrug.

My 6yo has an eyeshadow palette. She kept pinching mine so now she has her own rainbow one. Your DDs friend's parents would probably be phoning social work on me haha!

longdistanceclaraclara · 08/05/2024 22:01

A lot of revolution products have retinol so be wary of that ( not the make up as far as I know).

poppinpink · 08/05/2024 22:08

Another vote for ELF!

whoactuallyreallycares · 08/05/2024 22:16

Why don’t you get her a Superdrug or Boots voucher so she can choose her own if you’re not sure x

tridento · 11/05/2024 07:23

A lipgloss and a liquid or stick highlighter would be fun. And maybe the parents would see highlighter as less makeupy as it's like a grown up version of all the glittery stuff kids wear.

This thing. All over tik tok

Superdrug near me only do gift cards at Xmas. Found out when I tried to get one for my 12 yo's birthday last year.

My daughter is 13 and really into make up - she uses ELF products too. What about a primer? According to my daughter a good primer is essential (😂) and can make a difference between a good make up day and a bad make up day (🤷🏼) but you can't see it so won't upset the parents 😁

Not much point though as a primer is predominantly to prime the face for foundation. No point if she's not going to be wearing foundation

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 11/05/2024 13:27

I use ELF, their products are really good and reasonably affordable too. I bought this product recently and cannot praise it enough:

I agree with PP - no point in buying primer if she doesn’t wear foundation. Also those ELF ones and primers in general are well known for blocking pores, 13 is really far too young for it. A good moisturiser does the job and is far better for the skin

QueenBitch666 · 11/05/2024 14:28

ELF. Cruelty free, good quality and reasonable

PopcornAndGummyBears · 11/05/2024 14:46

Thanks all. I got some wee ELF products - a lip balm, that glow up lip gloss someone recommended and some clear mascara. Really appreciate all the suggestions.

As others have said ELF or Revolution, both can be found in a Superdrug.
