Skin Like Sandpaper - what will help????

The skin on my legs and arms has always had these tiny raised red spots, non-itchy, like goosebumps. V unattractive but with late pg they are getting worse and my skin feels so rough and dry. I liked Ren Exfoliating Body Balm but it's £19.50 a tub! Havent found a moisturiser that does the trick tho. I tried Nutrogena for very dry skin and it moisturised but felt "tacky" all day. I want one that sinks in and leaves my skin like velvet, thanks very much!

My sister and ds has what sounds like this, in worse do you mean more red therefore more noticable?

Theirs has been diagnosed as a type of excema sp! got some cream fromt he doctors.

Twiglett · 02/04/2008 19:39

baby oil on skin when straight out of bath or shower (ie still wet)

bearmama · 02/04/2008 19:41

Fairies, its not excema AFAIK, skin not cracked or itchy. By worse I mean the bumps are drier and so is the skin itself. I have spoken to doc and she gave my aqueous cream which is not that great really.

Have you tried body-brushing?

Idobelieveinfairies · 02/04/2008 19:44

No, nor is my sister/sons excema, thats why we suprised by what it actually is. My sisters is particulaey worse in the winter, a bit redder. They have had this from birth but hers got worse when pregnant.

aveeno...brilliant for every other day.

smells nice at first...but fades to a less nice smell.dont be put off though it is worth it.you dont get that tackiness

francagoestohollywood · 02/04/2008 19:57

I have this as well bearmama, it got worse after my 2nd pg. I found that brushing before bath/shower and exfoliating very vigorously as often as possible has helped immensely (more than the hydrating cream)

Agree - no good just doing the moisturising - you need to exfoliate the rough dead bits away first. Use scrubby gloves with your usual shower gel/soap. Use every time you shower, and moisturise afterwards, and it should improve.

you need flexitol heel balm

I have really bad dry skin on both my arms and legs and the only thing that really softens and moisturises it is Garnier body lotion, the one in the red bottle. It doesn't leave a tacky coat on me either. Love the stuff...

Caromac are you advertising?

I have this - it's something I inherited from my mum.

What works is have a bath, make sure the relevant bits are submerged for a good half hour plus so the top layer of skin is really hydrated - then get a nail brush and scrub away at it. You can use your finger nails and see the results (ugh!). You get used to the nail brush after a while. Doing it under water hurts less than doing it out of water.

Shower no good for me - just not in there long enough to get the dead skin to lift off and away. And I get to read the paper in peace.
