Think I've had a shitty wax

Going on holiday in a few days. Thought I'd treat (ha) myself to a bikini wax, I'm not very happy.
I've had it done twice before, both times with hard wax no strips, this was years ago but from what I remember I was happy, very smooth and no irritation. This time straight away I wasn't so sure, she used strips, I said I thought hard wax was better, she said it's more painful. Okay so I went with it, she said I'm not very hairy (couple of weeks growth and I have quite fine hair anyway) so she said she will do a full wax for the same price as just the bikini line.
It fucking killed, even more than I remember. I had a baby 11 weeks ago, could be hormones still? Don't know. But I'm not happy with the results, 99% of it still has roots, so no smoothness, more like stubble, I think I've had been better off just shaving to be honest !!
Also it's still really irritated, lots of tiny red rashy spots, will this go down ??

OP, you've clearly had a poor waxing experience & I would complain.

But about this:

One is very sticky and applied with a wooden spatula, removes by putting a paper or fabric rectangle on top and pulling off. This is perfectly ok method, but for legs.

This can be absolutely fine for bikini line waxing too - I have an extended bikini wax, all off bar a strip & sometimes beeswax (the hard wax) is used, but strip wax is also used & it's fine.

It's the technique of the therapist that's key.

It’s is fine for bikini, face and underarm. But it’s not used as much now for those areas as better waxes are out there. I waxed for years using cool wax and strips.

A poorly skilled therapist can have the best equipment and products and still cause burns and skin lifts. It really is all down to the Therapist’s skill. Which is why I recommend asking a few questions first, no good therapist would be offended.

For reference I have over 30 years of experience in this industry.

Sorry, I should have clarified - it's hot wax & strips my therapist uses; she's also used beeswax (hard wax). Both are fine. I think she uses the strips now as my hair is finer / sparser in my 40s & it's just possibly quicker. She's amazing at waxing.

😂😂😂 I do not have any intention of going for what would be baby number 4!! I've had two babies in less than two years, so no thank you ! It was purely for convenience of no shaving and wearing high cut bikini bottoms !!

I go away on Wednesday, when would be safe to exfoliate ? And can I just use one of those glove things ?

She was going over the same spot again and again, this doesn't seem right ? Correct me if I'm wrong though but my god, I was on fire afterwards ! It's finally calmed down a little now, I still have lots of tiny red spots but I think maybe they're my traumatised follicles ! Hopefully it's all settled before the holiday

It’s not hot wax. It’s technically cool wax. If it’s used with strips.

Hot wax was fazed out in the 80’s. Waxes have much lower temperatures now.

Peelable wax is the one without strips.

Just pop them.
you should be fine to exfoliate gently tomorrow / Tuesday and the glove should be ok

DobbyTheHouseElk · 05/05/2024 16:06

I wouldn’t advise popping the infected follicle. Leave it to go down. If you break the skin you will leave it open for infection and scarring. Have you put some antiseptic cream on?

This does not sound good, but you know that. I have regular Hollywood waxes and have never experienced strips being used or what you have been left with.

Do you have a friend that could recommend a good beautician/salon? Maybe you could pop there and let someone else have a look to see what she can suggest. If there is some length left, it might be possible for a little tidy up, but l appreciate that you do not want to add fuel to the fire.
