I’m so depressed. I just look awful all the time. Tired, old, hair is flat and lifeless, body a weird shape - what I wouldn’t give to be ten years (or more!) younger.
thread for advice and help please - skin products, hair products, what should I be wearing? I just have no idea. I see things I like but I have to appreciate that fashion is for young people!

What length is your hair? I give mine a good condition every and now and then, and then blow dry it with the babyliss big hair styler.

Skin: I wear SPF 50 every day.

Clothes: 40 definitely isn’t old. I wear pretty much the same as when I was 30.

I get my eyebrows tinted and shaped once a month.

Botox is my only advice. I look like crap but would look a lot worse without it. You might not be a frowner like me though.

Applesaucelemondrops · 04/05/2024 14:06

It’s shoulder length and nondescript.
Good tip re eyebrows.

Am considering Botox.
I am definitely a frowner and I’ve got a skinny face but a fat body. So my face looks pinched but my body looks fat. It’s not a good look!
I look better in sunglasses because the number 11 isn’t as visible. Otherwise - dreadful.

I know it's a massive cliche, but you can go a long long way to looking good with some exercise (just walking the dog briskly, dancing round your house, or gym if you are so inclined), water, and reasonable diet. My mum came round a few weeks ago and she's nearly 80 but was glowing, she's been walking the dog briskly three times a day, eats sensibly, doesn't drink alcohol (but hydrates all day), has fun with friends, all 'boring' but it does pay off. No make-up, no special products, no Botox, did have lasering a while back on facial hair.

I see the difference hugely between those who live a good lifestyle even if overweight/not the fittest and those don't- my friends who drink heavily, it's starting to show, so if I had one tip to look good (if you hadn't quit smoking already), it would be to drink alcohol very sparingly, like on nights out, not every day.

If you have one thing you hate, like 11's I might consider Botox, just as an experiment, see how it works for you. I have a fringe which is a lot cheaper. I did my teeth- this has made a huge difference to my confidence.

Applesaucelemondrops · 04/05/2024 14:12

I don’t drink or smoke.
Nor do I exercise 🤣

So you are ahead of the game!

Applesaucelemondrops · 04/05/2024 14:14

Yes but that’s even worse because I look like this and I already don’t drink and smoke 🤣🤣
I’ll try and exercise somewhere. That might help the weird shape.

It doesn't sound like age is the issue really -- you can look great or awful at any age.

Maybe it's a question of finding what makes you feel good about yourself, inside and out? So more stuff you enjoy (including exercise), finding clothes you love and that flatter you? For tiredness - do you get enough sleep? Are you overworked?

I'm always genuinely amazed by the difference happiness and confidence make to the way someone looks - it's like their whole face (and body!) comes alive.

I do lots of exercise, drink lots of water, prioritise sleep, but do knock back quite a lot of booze, but do have 2-3 days off a week. Am 49. Getting away with it so far !

Looking old is about how you move. People think I am much younger than I am coz of how I move, not cos of how I look. Ie walk fast, v flexible and strong.

i recommend a heartless curling set. I love mine, and it was only about £6. My hair is lifeless, but if I use this on dry hair at night I have big bouncy waves the next day. Definitely worth the effort.
