Corset wearing

I’ve recently started wearing a corset for evenings out with hubby, but I find sitting down uncomfortable as it digs in and rides up. Am I wearing it wrong somehow? Is this normal?

I think it's normal - they help you have a very upright posture partly for this reason. You can get them of different length and also under bust or over bust - a different style may help. Traditionally, they were worn with a shift next to the skin, not directly against the body, which would help with rubbing.

But the Victorians started the Rational Dress Society for a reason. There can be lots of health issues associated with corsets.

Ex corset person, if it digs in you are probably not sitting straight enough.
I cannot really explain but if you sit with straight back and kinda stretch yur spine to maximum height while sitting you will find they don't dig.
Also, see if you can get a model that goes all the way to hips (it looks hourglass shaped) compred to short veraion which is more like a cone.

I’m not sure where you are going when out, but l’d say that a corset is not something you go for a meal in.

I have one underbust and one overbust corset l’ve also owned others in the past, very much special occasion wear. Generally though, a corset is like a pair of shoes, you have to break them in. A good one will over time mould to you. An ill fitting one will never be right no matter what. It’s probably best to see how you get on at home with one. Looking in a mirror, the effect can appear quite dramatic, but don’t go too tight.

There is a lot of cheap rubbish out there. It doesn’t mean that you or others actually bought cheap, but it does mean that they were cheaply produced. There is an old joke of a woman asking in a shop “have you got anything less comfortable”?

Following on from my comments up thread, it was helpful to see what you actually have, l would think providing it is the right size, it will settle as it moulds to you and “learns” your contours. I’d lay off the dinners in it for now though. If you think you have gone too small, try having it done up on a chair back for a day or so.

You may have a problem here as it is only sold according to bust size.

”Corset Story” which you can find on line are very good, but l assume you don’t want to buy a second

Another alternative to get used to a corset type feel (but lighter), and I’m afraid this means more money, is to start with a basque. That can feel like having a cuddle all day.

Good luck. x

If you want to splash out, Vollers in Portsmouth can do bespoke fittings- see their website for making appointments.

Regarding SaraS12 post concerning discomfort while wearing a corset, it takes quite a while to get used to wearing one. Personally I wouldn't wear a corset if I was going out to eat but if you want to enhance your figure whilst not being tightly laced, a corselette is a good alternative. I can recommend The Rago range widely available online.
