Has anyone shopped at Poetry?

There are a couple of things I like on their website, but I've never shopped there. Does anyone have any experience of their clothing / customer service please? Thank you :)

Bought several skirts, lovely stuff. Nicely cut, quality fabric and finish, washes well. Other than timely delivery, I have no experience of customer service.

SuperGreens · 29/04/2024 21:13

Excellent, lovely clothes and very easy returns and refund process.

Howmanyroses · 29/04/2024 21:39

I love Poetry. I would shop there exclusively if it wasn't for the high price point. Really really lovely clothes in natural fabrics.

Thank you for your replies, looks like I should give it a go and try the linen trousers I like the look of!

That’s not fair, I went for a nose on their site and have now fallen in love with a load of cashmere that I cannot afford 😂

Shellingbynight · 30/04/2024 08:14

I agree with the other comments, I started buying there about 15 years ago and the quality is still as good as it was back then. Lovely cut and colours too. Definitely give it a try.

I am usually a 12, and at Poetry I'm a 12 in trousers but a 10 for tops.

Summerhillsquare · 30/04/2024 08:14

I've had their things from charity shops or vinted and they are excellent, especially the linen.

Thisbastardcomputer · 30/04/2024 08:18

I buy a couple of things every season, great items that I wear a lot. Can't speak for customer service because I've not needed them.

I'm of the mindset of a few high quality clothing, rather than a load of tat.

liveforchocolate · 30/04/2024 08:40

@Savoyafternoon lol! don't make me look at the cashmere! I was only looking at linen.

I've realised there is a store in Marylebone, and so I might try to go there and try a few things on instead of ordering online.

Sounds like I won't go wrong, other than the possibility of coming out with a big dent in my bank balance ;)

poetry and Wrap London are related brands, I think. I love them both. I also would wear them exclusively if possible.

Chitterchatterchoo · 30/04/2024 11:42

I would definitley go to a store if you can to get an idea of sizing - I’ve generally found the clothes very large, particularly the dresses.

Same here

EverybodysALebowski · 02/05/2024 08:23

They list garment measurements for their items which can be helpful if you know the measurements of a similar garment, really helps make sure you get the right size (esp as tops do run a bit large sometimes)

Shellingbynight · 02/05/2024 08:31

The good thing about Poetry is that, unlike other retailers, their sizing is consistent. So once you know you are e.g. a 12 in trousers, a 12 will always fit you.

TheOGCCL · 02/05/2024 10:00

The shop in Marylebone is quite small but you can have items sent in ready:

Hi OP, I have a few linen t-shirts from there that are good quality.
The only thing I would say is the cut is quite boxy, and their tops tend to be short in length, so if like me you have a long torso they can come up quite short on you.

liveforchocolate · 02/05/2024 11:58

I am very excited for my planned trip to the store in a few weeks. I think as @TheOGCCL suggests, I'll call in advance and make sure they have what I'm after. Thank you all :)

Maybe I should ask where else you all recommend that is so consistently good?!

I think Arket and Cos are good quality although in the past year Cos seems to be a bit more variable quality. I also like Everlane, which is a brand from the US, some Massimo Dutti and some &other stories. Otherwise I shop vintage clothes as the quality used to be so much better even 10 years ago

tobee · 03/05/2024 14:05

Going against the grain here, I thought my Poetry t shirts looked like old rags after washing and faded badly.

Mercurial123 · 04/05/2024 06:45

I have two pairs of wide leg trousers from Poetry. The heavier weight linen looks a bit tired after a year. The lighter weight is looking better. The quality of the linen is so much better than COS.

Whatismypasswordthen · 04/05/2024 10:39

I also like Me & Em and Wyse - sale prices only for me, sadly. I also like Aligne which isn't as pricey, not a huge range and quite structural so not for everyone but I love it. Wrap and The Fold are another two I lust after online.

liveforchocolate · 04/05/2024 16:40

I love Me & Em, but can only get one or two things there each season as so expensive, and I just found Wyse a few weeks ago. Will look up Aligne and the others you mention, thank you, then I can lust after them all too!

I've got a silk dress and a corduroy dress from Poetry. Both get scrunched up into packing cubes on a regular basis and both get washed on a standard wash on the washing machine, although I do use a lower spin speed for the silk dress. Both are holding up really well to this and I'm really pleased with the quality

Hollysberries · 04/05/2024 18:52

I'm sorry but I can't see the appeal at all.

I received their brochure ages ago and it didn't do much for me.
Your post has prompted me to look at their website.

IMO it looks like a hybrid of Seasalt and Woolovers.
Pretty uninspiring.
