Suitcase style backpack (with proper hip belt)

We plan to go to Barcelona soon and I want a suitcase style backpack with a proper hip belt (bad back) but that looks smart enough to wear when we have checked out of hotels. Any ideas?

Thanks @quizzys - how did you attach the hip belt? I've seen you can buy them but a lot of cases don't seem to have a gap to thread it through.

Surely it depends on what luggage you’re carrying on the plane? Is it just carry on or will it be hold luggage?

Not sure yet, my main issue is being able to carry comfortably after hotel check out so I don't have to go back for it.

I have an eagle creek global companion 40l backpack which opens like suitcase and has hip belt. But when fully packed not sure I'd want to wear on back for full day of exploring.

OP I attached the waist belt on to the existing straps. There are connections on the waist strap for this so you don't necessarily need loops or gaps on the backpack.

Anyway, another suggestion for you - I also have back issues and only use the one I mentioned above for an overnight with little in it really. For a weekend/few days away (like Barcelona!), I bought this little gem and it is fantastic. Looks like a tiny bag but it's deceptively spacious honestly. Perfect size for Ryanair underseat and IT HAS WHEELS. Dual purpose, can be a backpack or a pull along. I have used it many times for a three day or so break and it fulfils my needs perfectly. We pack far too much and I've got over that now.

Metz 20L Hybrid - 40x20x25cm

Flies free on Ryanair. The perfect size (40x25x20cm) for Ryanair’s new ‘free’ underseat cabin luggage rules. Hand luggage compatible with ALL other major airlines. Use as a trolley or a backpack thanks to useful hybrid design. Pack more than you think...

I have a cabin zero backpack that I take on short/non-hold trips. It's not the most technical (usually more comfortable) when fully loaded but I wanted an affordable and decent looking pack with clamshell opening. The classic pro and military ranges have a hip strap.

I had a look at those - thanks for the suggestion.

I'm embarrassed to say that 20l is what I cart about in an average day! Hopefully they have 40l too.

Budget depending, one of the Patagonia 'black hole MLC' bags. I have the mini MLC 30L and I love it.
