DD2 has ginormous feet. Always has and am hoping that now she's turning 18, they've stopped growing!

She is currently a UK Size 10.5 - 11

And has her school leavers prom coming up very soon.

She is tall and broad and has settled on the most fabulous jumpsuit. She feels super in it and looks fantastic.

We now have the footwear problem.

Heels / court shoes / flats etc are never going to cut it - this young woman lives in trainers and sliders.

So - slightly dressier trainers are the option here.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Any weddings previously attended have had converse as the footwear so we're not adverse to those again.

Her jumpsuit is black with gold embroidery, if that helps.

Many thanks!

I'm 'only' a 42.5 or 43 but have had some success ordering on Zalando.
They do big sizes
and they also have a toggle on each style of shoe so that you can see the manufacturer's size. So you can see if a 9 is actually a 42 or a 43 etc.
And they have a 100 day return policy in general. Although I think some shoes ship direct from the manufacturer eg. Adidas in which guess I'm not sure the 100 days applies.

I've ordered quite a lot and also returned a fair few times and never had an issue.

Good luck.

Irregular Choice - some fantastic trainers and flats and big sizes

rhiannon1967 · 29/04/2024 10:29

I would have thought that something like silver or metallic trainers would work well. But I'm guessing you're shopping from the mens trainers and the options are a bit more limited. I wear Adidas mens - sambas and gazelles. And superga are also unisex.

Amblesidebadger · 29/04/2024 10:31

Bespoke converse? You can design them on their website.

Talipesmum · 29/04/2024 10:32

Maybe black trainers and buy some gold laces, to match the jumpsuit? Or any other plain trainer colour with some sort of glittery colourful lace? (Even a bit of decoration modification with acrylics on the trainers?)

rhiannon1967 · 29/04/2024 10:33

Asos is another huge marketplace that I think does larger sizes. Although I've never shoe shopped from there.

YesItsMe44 · 29/04/2024 10:44

Not had luck with trainers, but took ages to find some "stylish" footwear. May not be her style but I've had luck with Alegria (sooo comfortable! Not sure if available in England), Josef Seibel, and Vivaia.

AuntieMarys · 29/04/2024 10:44

I feel her pain...and I am only a 9! I can only suggest
Gabor
Otto and Ivy
Low heels
Magnus
Cinderella Shoes

shepherdsangeldelight · 29/04/2024 10:53

A lot of the girls (with varying sized feet) at DD's prom wore Converse, so I'd probably stick with that. Trying to find big size shoes that fit properly, for a specific occasion, otherwise sucks up too much of your life.

Probably not for the prom, and DD may well turn her nose up at them, but, as well as suggestions others have already made, I've found some ok big sized shoes at hotter. A bit hit and miss though.

DoAWheelie · 29/04/2024 10:57

I was a UK size 10 by the time I was 12, and I'm now a size 12.

I mostly got away with a couple of pairs of very fancy boots, and a pile of converse in varying colours. I'd mix and match converse colours sometimes - a formal outfit with one green and one purple one went down well at a wedding.

Checking in, if you are near London and have deep pockets Crispins on chiltern street have some really lovely shoes, they also have a web site but it’s lovely to be able to try on https://crispinsshoes.com/ (magnus has a branch across the road) I’ve always worn sandals with jumpsuits personally

Crispins Shoes | Large Size Shoes For Women

Specialists in women's large shoes UK sizes 8-12 (EU 42-46) offering a range of elegant stylish shoes at great prices from European designer brands.

Thanks all - I was a 6/7 until multiple pregnancies left me with size 42/43 feet so it's not an unknown area for me personally lol

She's decided she'd like some flat shoes - there will never be an instance where this kid wears open toes / shiny / feminine sandals etc so will do the usual and just order loads for her to try in the house and end up sending the majority back.

I'll start working my way through the list now, thank you, and to the pp asking, no, we're nowhere London - couldn't be further away lol thank you though

Irregular choice are, as always, fabulous but so so far from DD's style. She's not one, ever, to be front and centre or make a fuss.

Long Tall Sally - none any use for DD but for those other ladies seem worth a look.

I'm currently trying to find a kind of brogue which I think would work. She's always known her own mind this one.

I like the idea of the two different colours of converse but that would draw too much attention for DD's liking.....................

I am a UK 10.
There was more choice when I was in my twenties than there is now.
(anyone else remember Lilly and Skinners tall and small range?)
Then there was Brantano, but then the big one near us closed down.
Then there was Evans. they were good, lots of styles, but they did a lot of wide fittings, and I am (well, was) regular.

Now I am stuffed. I wear men's shoes. I did buy some nice flats from Long Tall Sally for my 50. But that is it. The rest of the time I wear mens.

I cannot buy shoes online (and i just don't get how anyone can, of 10 pairs I try on, only one will be comfortable to wear.)
I cannot afford niche shop shoes, I want high street prices.

I just cannot understand how this is corner of the market is still so poorly serviced. When Lilly and Skinner was taken over, one manager told me that 20% of their busisness was the tall and small shelf and it was closed down over the next 1-2 years by whoever took it over - madness!

Rumbleinthecrumble · 29/04/2024 14:00

If you’re on Facebook it’s worth joining and posting in a group called Tallternative Retail set up to help people know where to buy clothes/shows for tall people and larger feet.

Mymiddlenameiscynic · 29/04/2024 16:05

Diechmann? They do large sizes. And high street prices, I got a lovely pair of brogues. So good I bought 3 pairs in different colours. Sooo comfortable!

bryceQ · 29/04/2024 16:14

You can't go wrong with some cool converse and that would go really well with a jumpsuit and she will wear often

Words · 29/04/2024 17:05

What a good Mum for helping!

I am a size 9 with very very very wide feet.

I wear Men's, or sports shoes or Crocs, or some of the less 'nursing home chic' styles from Hotter.

It really is an underserved market.

Good luck !

ChocoChocoLatte · 29/04/2024 22:32

An additional discussion this evening reveals she doesn't want converse - (her words) she wants to make an 'effort'

Fecking marvellous 🙄😂

I've ordered a pair of black ballet flats from Amazon which she's approved of..... they haven't arrived yet LOL

We have a Diechmann in town so that's a shout.

I remember brantano! Ours is closed now but I had to attend a funeral the day before giving birth and it was the only place I could find shoes large enough to get my feet into - I refused to wear flip flops or crocs Blush

Off to check out Cinderella shoes now.

Thanks again all

Doc Martens? Either the boots or the brogue style I imagine would look nice and can be worn again?

TheaDecker · 29/04/2024 23:04

I have seen Otto and Ivy recommended on here. They go up to a 46.

Aparecium · 30/04/2024 00:18

Dd wore Doc Martins to her prom. Coloured ones, not black. Mid-height IIRC. The most expensive shoes I have ever bought her, but she is still wearing them 5y later.

Although dd was the only girl there wearing DMs - they looked right and she looked fabulous - I'm told that most years there are usually several girls in DMs.
