Would anyone like to style me

Looking to buy new clothes for Spring/Summer. I don't have a clue where to start. I need work from home clothes/walking the dog, going on walk clothes and clothes for daily use like running errands/kids taxi etc/nightdresses and leasure wear for home. I've fallen into a rut of wearing the same clothes. Also need to have a declutter as a lot of clothes are too small for me now, I've put on a few stones but hoping to shift this. I am 5ft 2 and a size 14/16 my stomach is rounded.

Can anyone please help.

I've put on a few stones but hoping to shift this.

This is a bit vague! Are you proposing to buy a new Summer wardrobe and then buy again when you lose weight? Or - what?

Do you have an idea of how much you’d like to spend?

I’m in a similar rut. I’ve ordered a few basic t-shirts to refresh summer woredrobe, and a couple of pairs of chino shorts that fit size I am now. Also a few basic jumpers (chunky knit Breton, and plain cream, and a couple of bright colours). Also some new accessories, and have started making an effort with doing hair and basic make up (foundation, blush, lipstick).

I know I need a few nice summer dresses that I can wear during the week for both school / activity runs, and that go with trainers for walking the dog. That’s the next hurdle. Need to go look round the shops tho, as difficult to buy without trying on. Will prob need to be linen / cotton, maybe a shirt dress and a couple of tea dresses? If you like jumpsuits that could be an option for you? Whistles have some nice ones that could be either dressed up or down.

this also comes in petite, and lots of prints. Also have versions with sleeves. Look for discount codes - they always online somewhere

I’d avoid the oversize tent style dresses, especially if you’re planning to lose more weight, plus I don’t think they’re flattering if you have a tummy.

Have you tried looking on Instagram or Pinterest for styles you like? I started by saving things on h and m, you can create a style board on there. There may be other clothing suppliers that do the same. It really helped me visualise and stick to the styles I liked.
I also regularly clear my wardrobe of anything i no longer wear. I can't afford expensive statement pieces which I might keep. Anything that doesn't fit goes too. Dress for you now, not the body you love had, or the body you want.
Hope that all helps.

@Aixellency planning on buying a few bits and pieces to see me through. No budget in mind really.

@Namechange357 thanks 😊 for the links and tips. Sounds like you have a great plan to spruce things up. I had totally forgot about accessories. Will pop them on my list also. Tshirts really don't suite me due to wide shoulders and big boobs. I really like the green jumpsuit, I would never have looked at something like that before.

@Seaside3 I have definitely been guilty in the past of buying clothes to slim into Confused time to have a clear out and start again. Will have a look on H&M and see if I can make a board of bits I like.

If you have big boobs, I’d def look for v-necks, and wrap dresses. Seriously jealous!

Have fun trying stuff on. If you can find 2/3 things that look great on you now and you feel great wearing it’ll completely lift your mood :)

Also, if you can make it into London one day, John Lewis do personal shopping sessions (no obligation to buy anything). You book online, then get to use their special changing rooms, and they find stuff for you, get different sizes etc, and you even get a glass of Prosecco if you want it!

Would absolutely love a day out in London. Unfortunately it's a bit of a trek for me, I am in the Highlands Grin

I definitely need my mood lifted. With some clothes that look ok.

Thank you 💐

I recently bought this dress, it's available in several colours. In case you can't see from the photo the wrap has a popper do it won't gape
It's quite thick so good for a normal British summer.

Oh and it's dark pink rather than burgundy

That's a lovely dress @GettingStuffed I like the colour and the price. It's a dress that you could dress up or wear casual.

I've had a few dresses from Mountain warehouse and found them easy to wash and wear
They do simple jersey dresses too

Bluebellsinthewind · 30/04/2024 16:03

I would never have thought about mountain warehouse for clothes. I just really nip in there at winter if dd needs new gloves, hats etc.

I would start by going through everything you have, clothes, footwear, nightwear and accessories. Get rid of anything that doesn’t fit, is a bit sad or you just wouldn’t pick out of the wardrobe. Hopefully you will find some things you like. Try to identify things to buy to fill gaps, which would create outfits or go with lots of what you have. Then go shopping IRL (appreciate being in the highlands doesn’t help with this) and try on different styles, different colours. If you can get to more than one shop you can start to get a feel for their sizing so if you order online there is less chance of you needing to return.
If you are broad shouldered you can carry off a lot of styles. There are a lot of long linen shirts in just now which are very forgiving and look smarter than t shirts.

Bluebellsinthewind · 30/04/2024 17:27

Thank you @eatreadsleeprepeat that's great advice. I will probably stick with online though as going to shops just makes me feel old and fat.

I recently lost weight so had to more or less start from scratch, I’m 55, five feet one and a size 14.
What I did was remove every item of clothing from my wardrobe, go through it, if it didn’t fit or make me feel good I got rid of it. Six bin bags later for the charity collection I start to work out what I need. I bought myself 4 new outfits that I can mix and match a bit . I bought the right size for now, for the right season, not to put by for summer, not for next winter etc. So far it’s worked really well and I’ll do it again when the weather gets permanently a bit warmer rather than the odd nice day.
I worked out tapered leg trousers suit me as do slightly cropped jackets, tops and cardigans. So I bought a few variations of these clothes.
I ordered about 12 pairs of trousers online in all different styles and this was how I found a style that suited me. Also because I’m short I’m only looking at petite clothes now, it’s not even short I need as sometimes the crutch area is too long. Since I’ve switched to petite I feel a lot smarter and all my sleeves are no longer too long.
