Summer clothes for a Celt

Not sure if there are many out there who have this specific colouring - white, freckly, prone to redness - we are not talking porcelain English roses here!
What looks have you found work for you in summer? I just want to look comfortable but elegant. I actually love warmer weather but find it very hard to look chic, honestly. I am slim but short and always feel hard done by by the camera.

No polyester, go for breathable fabrics in your best colours. Try cosmetics that battle redness like Dr. Wu Renewal Serum With Mandelic Acid. Wear an Asian sunscreen with whitecast and voila

Muted tones, emerald green, accentuate your shape, good haircut, nice lipstick, exfoliate, moisturise, nice earrings, get clothes altered if too long, wedge heels or flat birkenstock type shoes, flattering jeans, buy a few things that can mix and match re colour. I am celtic and wear rust, black, denim, coffee linen, emerald green, turquoise, navy.

I’m a pale freckly person prone to redness! Some things that help:

Wear a decent foundation or cc cream (I like erborian) and I personally look better when I gently pat some translucent powder on the bits that need it like the nose, cheeks and chin.
Find colours that suit you - if you have cool undertones then soft pinks, blues, off white will look good. If you’re a redhead maybe warmer colours suit you like some nice greens, coral etc.

greengreyblue · 27/04/2024 14:21

Blues and greens in various shades? Depending on your shape, wide leg trousers, linen shirts, simple dresses. Unless you’re an actual Celt then accessorize with some woad and a shield.😁

SwedishEdith · 27/04/2024 14:32

Summer is shit if you have a celtic complexion. I wouldn't wear pale colours as you'll look washed out. Navy works well and deeper pinks, greens and blues. If you have freckles, stay away from patterns. Denim is good for shirts and tops as well.

Ancientdecs · 27/04/2024 14:43

Ah thank you friends.
Some good stuff here. I think I do a lot of it already, or try! I'm feeling annoyed because I just saw a photo of myself in a black linen t and palazzo pants (which I love) and my first thought was that I look fat in a way that someone with darker skin never would. And I am not fat, I am size 8. (

And I'm annoyed with myself as well for giving a crap about this when I'm healthy and lucky otherwise. Will we ever learn.)

Does anyone have links to any specific looks they love? My colouring is similar to the actress Kerry Condon who is beautiful but not one to be regularly papped or anything.
Otherwise I think focusing on good earrings (agree with the poster who said that), footwear, bags and sunglasses is the best hope we have.

No idea who she is so just googled. You have no problems!

greengreyblue · 27/04/2024 14:47

Why not see what looks good on her then? I think charcoal grey looks good on warm colouring as a softer black. Also navy. Eau de nil also.

Ancientdecs · 27/04/2024 14:49

Haha I don't look like her, I wish! Just same colouring.
I don't find many normal outfit pics of her tbh, mostly Oscar gowns!
I like charcoal, thanks.

It has to be light weight stuff with good coverage for me because any exposed flesh will burn despite diligence with suncream. Possibly helps that I'm taller (5ft 10) but I do try to go for long but narrow things, column maxi dresses, skirts etc. I mostly go for navy, grey and white but there does seem to be a lot of nice deep green around this summer.
Biore watery essence on face.

Soccermumamir · 27/04/2024 17:57

I would say wear what you want 🙂 I'm pale and freckly but do end up with a light tan if in sun for a long period of time. I wear suncream every day SPF50 and keep applying throughout the day. I enjoy floaty fabrics, trousers, long skirts etc. I hate tight clothing even though I'm quite slim, Size 10. Embrace your colouring 🙂

Edited

Haha! I was going to suggest a homemade linen tunic and some long woollen socks! 😀

greengreyblue · 28/04/2024 07:48

@Galliano if you’re 5ft 10 I’d avoid narrow column styles. Balance out your height with loose shapes that you can carry and that might drown shorter figures.

greengreyblue · 28/04/2024 07:49

@Insertdeadcatsnamehere glad you share my humour!😉

Ancientdecs · 28/04/2024 09:08

SwedishEdith I never made the connection before about freckles and patterns. I instinctively tend to mostly avoid patterns. This is very interesting.

Navy, black, charcoal, greens, some white or tan to break things up - these are colours I have in my capsule. Pinks or corals I would never wear. Am also intrigued by the mention of 'coffee' up thread, I may give this a go!

Thanks all for the solidarity.

Yeah I'm a celt and agree summer is a shit season for us. You have to be much better looking as a celt to look as presentable as someone less good looking but with darker colouring. I'm not sure why this is. It doesn't help that I'm very tall and thin. I basically have the opposite of a natural summer look where its all about tanned toned limbs.

This year I think I'm going to try a light high end fake tan and might focus on natural fabrics and colours...Try and get a vaguely forest dweller vibe going on

Theothername · 28/04/2024 09:43

I really enjoyed the long sleeve floaty maxi dress fashion of the last couple of summers.

I avoid black and use beige and navy as my neutrals. And my summery colours are greens, teal, yellow, and blue.

One of my staples is linen shirts with trousers so I can turn up the collar, and roll down the sleeves if I’m outside.

When you’re showing of long tanned arms and legs the quality of summer clothing doesn’t matter as much. But if you’re more covered up it does. I look for a linen blend rather than pure linen in trousers as they wrinkle less (scrunch the fabric in your hand for a minute to get an idea of how much it will crease with body heat) and I have a good look at the seams because you need clothes well structured not to sag and droop. Never assume that price equals quality.

I always need a hat and sunglasses (light sensitivity) if I’m outside so I make sure these coordinate and not look like an after thought. It’s worth investing in a good quality hats, although I’ve only don’t that recently because they weren’t my highest priority. Real materials wear differently to synthetics and plastics, and you want to look for structure at the brim so they don’t get out of shape, and adjustability to avoid the forehead crease.

My best decision ever was to embrace the pale and eschew fake tan. I only look like an oompa loompa otherwise. Spf50 all the way.

greengreyblue · 28/04/2024 09:59

I’m fair ish ( green eyes and freckles ) but will tan lightly though I avoid the sun. What I love is sunglasses and big hats, wide leg trousers, linen shirts, Birkenstock style sandals. I go a bit Boho in summer with earrings etc.

greengreyblue · 28/04/2024 10:00

@Theothername a daily tan moisturiser is more subtle if you wanted a glow.
