Opinion on foundation (photos included)

pussinboots61 · 24/04/2024 21:07

Please can you comment on which foundation suits me the most. The photo where I have the leopard print top on is Clinique, the other one is Boots No7.

I have got two samples and am unsure which one to buy,

Thank you,

Both are fine but the pink top one matches your skin tone best the other is a bit warmer so good for summer.

Asparename · 24/04/2024 22:05

I think the one in the pink top looks best. Which of the no 7 foundations is it? It looks nice 😊

Whycantiwinmillionsandsquillions · 24/04/2024 22:24

Pink top for me.

shenandoahvalley · 24/04/2024 22:27

Pink top one for me too. It looks more natural and less chalky.

Verite1 · 24/04/2024 22:29

Pink top.

CuteCillian · 24/04/2024 22:33

No7

RaininSummer · 24/04/2024 22:38

First picture looks nicer I think.

MissSookieStackhouse · 24/04/2024 22:38

Pink top

pussinboots61 · 24/04/2024 22:48

Wow, thank you for your replies. The No7 one is the essentially natural foundation in cool ivory. The other one is Clinique even better glow in cream chamois.

The Clinique one is about £20 more than the No7, not that it matters as I don't mind paying for quality but if the No7 looks better it makes me wonder if it's worth paying more..

The eyeliner and lipstick are Clinique. Doubt I'll stray from the eyeliner as it's the best I've found as yet. The lipstick doesn't stay on any more than No7 though.

userxx · 24/04/2024 22:50

I'd say the no7 essential one is more of a tinted moisturiser, great for light coverage and as you mentioned cheap.

StarDolphins · 24/04/2024 22:55

Definitely pink top got me! Looks more suited to your skin tone & more glowy. Lovely!

BreadInCaptivity · 24/04/2024 22:59

I think the photo in the pink top is the most flattering but I think it's impossible to conclude that's the result of the foundation.

Perhaps the photos were taken at different times of the day, so even in the same location the lighting can make a huge difference.

The pink top one looks closer up and a softer more forgiving focus.

With those caveats I think your skin looks good on both photos but neither are close up enough to see how they really look on your skin re: highlighting any lines/dry spots etc.

On that basis I'd say pick the one that felt most comfortable on your skin.

One change I would suggest (meant kindly) is that I think your eye make (liner) is overly heavy and a bit aging as a result.

I've found as I've got older that having much softer eye make up is more flattering.

I switched from black eyeliner to a mid brown shadow stick to frame my eye (using this atm. m.bobbibrown.co.uk/product/2330/24845/makeup/eyes/eye-shadow/long-wear-cream-shadow-stick#/shade/Cinnamon but had a nice Pixi one before that).

As a result I've had to ditch my nude lipstick for something a (bit) darker but still natural (my favs are Charlotte Tilbury Bond Girl/walk of no shame but I think the former has a new name now) and amp up my cream blush a tad (I like the Jones Road Balms).

Looking at more recent pictures it looks a lot better on me at least.

SomethingIn · 24/04/2024 23:10

The pink top really suits you and in turn makes your foundation look like the perfect choice

Thank you for your suggestion. My eyeliner is brown and not black, though it is hard to tell in photos. I do smudge it sometimes to make it look softer. Sometimes I think of trying a brown eyeshadow and a liner brush, a friend of mine uses this and it works well. I have used Clinique quickliner for years as it goes on well and lasts. No7 do a twist up cream eyeshadow/liner product but that seems to go on thickly.

Definitely the No7, it looks, fresher, the colour looks great and it softens your fine lines. I agree that a nice cream eyeshadow would suit you. Something like the By Terry Ombre Blackstar in Bronze moon. Gently smudged out over your lids. And, yes, the pink top looks lovely on you.

QueenAnn · 25/04/2024 15:28

I'm guessing pink top is day look and leopard top night out look? I'm with everyone else and think the pink top make up look suits you best. You have a lovely complexion and that foundation looks great, also agree with others about the eye make up. You have gorgeous, sparkling eyes and would suit a lighter eye make up look, your eye/eye brow liner looks too heavy and covers half your lovely eyes up in leopard top photo.

Thehalls191 · 25/04/2024 18:51

I also think the pink top photo is the better of the 2.

I know you weren't asking for any other advice but I do think moving away from the eye liner on your lower lids would massively enhance your eyes.

I was wedded to my eyeliner for a long time and I felt 'naked' without it but I reached a stage where it looked too harsh. Once I'd got used to seeing myself without it I realised how much better I looked with a cream eyeshadow and a light smudge of eyeliner on my top lid.

BreadInCaptivity · 26/04/2024 03:15

@pussinboots61

I think even though your eyeliner is brown it's still quite a harsh application and still a very dark brown.

You say you've been using the same product for years and I think it's a common trap we can all fall into.

We get used to a certain "look" and it can be hard to change because that becomes our "face".

You have great skin and pretty colouring but both pictures are dominated by your eyes in a non flattering way.

Eyeliner around top and bottom lids when younger is great, but as we get older it just looks like two big circles on our face as you loose the ability to "wing" it or soften it without showing wrinkles and just make eyes look smaller and bead like.

You need a much, much lighter brown application to your eyes. A cream pencil I have found is easy. Over the lid, then a bit under the eye. Then a great mascara. It will really open up your face along with a cream blush and a lipstick a few shades darker than your natural lip colour.

You have a lovely face shape and skin but all the photos draw to is your eyes (and not in a good way).

Again this is all said kindly. I found it hard to ditch my "look" I'd had for years and I felt quite under done for a bit but honestly ditching the eyeliner was a game changer.

Josette77 · 26/04/2024 03:19

Definitely pink top!!!

I think if you stop using anything underneath your eyes, they will instantly look bigger and more awake.

I think the dark eye makeup is actually making them look smaller.

Thank you for your advice which does make sense.

My eyeliner is my trademark really. Today I have smudged it more and not put it on as heavy.

A friend of mine always tells me my make up doesn't show much and that I don't like I have any eyeliner on, that is when it has smudged throughout the day after work but I saw her the other day when it was more freshly applied and she said I looked better with more on. Mind you she does put eyeliner on every thickly, along with foundation and has the tide mark I'm afraid, though I wouldn't tell her this.

I have considered liquid eyeliner, just a fine line on the top lash, in brown but would this look too harsh. I am 62 by the way.

Also lipstick, I am thinking of maybe a Clinque chubby stick that I can use on my cheeks also.

Pink top. I think you suit paler, lighter colours.

You look lovely in both pics but the one of you in the pink top is your “go to” foundation I’d say.

I'm not sure I'd take advice from her to be honest, not if she's got a tide line of foundation herself.
