Colour matching foundation

Growing up reading women’s magazines it was drummed into me to make sure foundation matched your skin colour. But when you want to look healthier/ less deathly pale why wouldn’t you wear something that gives a bit is colour ? And how does colour matching work with fake tan/ facial glow drops? Any wisdom gratefully received !

Ha! This made me smile op. I'm the same. I even tell the make up counter staff, I don't want a foundation that matches my skin tone...but I don't go that much darker...I do however go for something with a very slight yellow tone as on paper this shouldn't work for me but I actually prefer it.

Ooh interesting- what does the yellow tone do?

I kind of feel it adds a warmth and very slight oliveyness. I don't want to go darker with a pinky toned foundation as I feel that gives a kind of orange look. But actually when I watch a lot of make up reels on Facebook and Instagram, I see a lot of people doing this

I would suggest to use facial tan drops to warm up neck and face, but keep foundation close to your real colour, then play with blush and bronzer to give your face a healthy, rested appearance. My skin and tone are good and healthy but when evened out with foundation - looks boring and flat, so pink blush and bronzer give it more life.

I add warmth by using a Matt bronzer not by a darker foundation

My natural skin tone is sun and acne damaged, so I go paler to match what my skin would be like without those!

InAMillion · 20/04/2024 19:25

I always have 2 shades of the same foundation and mix them as necessary depending on the seasons ie in summer where my skin gets tanned

I'd never expect a foundation to be 100% what I want even though I'm pretty lucky with colour matches so dont often have to mix them

We should embrace our natural skin tones I know but mine's really quite cool toned so yes I like to try and warm it a tad I usually use bronzer to achieve this

I match foundation, but use a bronzing powder and decent blush to give that glow.

hooplahoop · 20/04/2024 19:32

am going to experiment with some bronzer - wish me luck!

It’s more matching the tones in your skin. I’ve gotten more pink as I’ve gotten older. One day my foundation just didn’t look right on me. It was a yellow tone. Switched to a pink tone and I’m good again.
I had a good laugh at a post I saw: the poster said she carefully applied foundation and concealer to cover redness- and then asked why she then applied blush?

Match your foundation and then bronze. If you choose a different shade it will look like a mask.
