How the hell can I get curls to hold??

I had perms throughout the 80s. A month of resembling a poodle, then a few weeks of lovely shagginess when it had relaxed a bit, then mess til it was time to have it redone.

However during the messy period, it would hold the shape of whatever you forced it into, either more curls using rollers or straight.

Nowadays my hair isn’t in bad Nick but it’s soooo fine, flat, straight and silky. I’m rubbish at curling it using straighteners or wands etc.

Today I tried using a round brush and a hairdryer. Revelation! I suddenly had the sort of big bouncy blowout I’ve always dreamed of.

For all of half an hour. Then I was back
to straight 😢.

So what do I need? I use mousse for volume but that makes no difference to curl lifespan.

Is setting lotion still a thing? Does it work?

Help!

My hair is the same. Just decided to embrace the straightness.

I have fine hair and find that mousse, curling with straighteners and then a ton of hairspray holds mine until the next wash.

My hair is exactly the same. I find this really helps along with lots of Elnette hairspray

I have curly hair so can't help much but mine is very fine and too soft so it needs grit to hold
Imagine you would need the same

This has good reviews and is cheap

I have fine hair. Had it styled fancily for my wedding, and a strand right at the front went bolt straight even before the ceremony!

If I get my hair curled, my hairdresser covers it in hair spray, then curls it, then holds it in place when the iron is out, until the hair has cooled and sprays it a couple of times then. Once it is all arranged, it gets sprayed again. I still have to repeat the process at home for a couple of bits that go straight, but most of it stays in place for a couple of hours.

At home, I plait it while wet and sleep like that to get wavy hair

I've always had straight hair but it has noticeably changed in texture (maybe HRT?). Anyway I use Frizz Ease dream curls mousse diffuse/scrunch it a bit when drying, have tried a few and that seems to be the best for holding waves/curls for me.

dont Curl freshly washed hair as this reduces the ability for any curls to stay. Wash hair at least day before.
