Doc Martens advice

I've ordered some 1460 soft leather burgundy DMs in two sizes to try. I love the look of them and have been lusting after some nice DMs for years, but now I'm not sure which size to go for.

I'm a half size normally and have quite wide feet/high instep. The larger size has lots of room and isn't tight anywhere even when laced up firmly. However it does move around on my feet.

The smaller size is good length-wise, tight around the seam on top of my feet at the end of the tongue, and slightly tight around my little toes.

I know they normally need wearing in, which is fine - but if I wear in the smaller size will they soften around the toes and that tongue seam?

What I don't want to do is wear in slightly too small DMs and have them never be really comfy in the way that I'm dreaming of, and not be able to return them.

Thanks for all the help. Just an update - the Solovair size 7.5 arrived and they fit! (I could potentially go down a size too but only ordered the half size for now - plenty of toe room and no painful seam.)

Looking at them next to the DMs they are pretty much identical, but it's obvious that the Solovair are better quality. Leather is much thicker and they just seem sturdier. This is definitely the better purchase and long term investment.

I'm actually going to keep the Fly ones as they're super comfy and convenient with their zip, and then look for Solovair on sale in a different colour, which will hopefully last me many many years.

I have to take the insole out of DMs or they rub across the top of my foot. I'm a 5.5 I have a 5 in pascals and 6 in the Chelsea boots, both with the insoles removed.

I have several pairs of boots and now shoes. I used to wear solovair but the pascal soft leather DMs are so, so comfortable straight out of the box that I won't be looking back. I wear the same size in DMs as I do in Birkenstocks, which is a half size up from... anywhere else really, I've only shopped these brands in recent yrs. In the women's at that size the shoe or boot is very fitted, not uncomfortable but i hope to gain a tiny bit of ease. In the unisex at the same size i can wear thick socks and an insole.

I'm a 7.5 or 8 depending on brand, with skinny feet. I wanted a pair of DMs so badly - but the women's 8s are too short in the length and the men's version too wide.

So I ended up doing as @KirstenBlest suggests and got a pair of Solovairs, in size 8 which in that brand is perfect for me. They are burgundy, and gorgeous, and I love them.

Agreed, they're better quality, wider and a good range of sizes and colours

I’m a four & a half & went up the half size as the four I tried rubbed across the top & pinched my little toe as they were too narrow. The fives have been great, really comfy with hardly any wearing in. Not tried Solovair but tried Lanx at their main shop & could tell straight away that they would cripple me. DH has some Lanx ones & they’ve never been comfortable.

@mimblewimble , if you keep an eye on the Outlet you might be lucky, but if you see them snap them up before someone else does.
I remember seeing some discounted ones on a site but when I checked just now they didn't have any - I got the monkey boots from there for £50 less than RRP.
