About to spend a small fortune on getting prescription sunglasses- want to get something that’s fairly current but classic- as I want to get a few years wear without having to replace- if that is at all possible!

Im late 40s square face shape, live in jeans and trainers and rarely get dressed up- so nothing glam- needs to go with my pared down style.

I have tried on these- they look fine but I wanted opinion- and check that they’re not completely unfashionable- before spending out. And open to any suggestions.

Prescription sunglasses are an absolute must for me. I love mine. Definitely worth it imo

I really like those ones you posted too. Mine are fairly similar but are an unbranded pair. I spent a small fortune on some designer ones before but don't regret at all.

I spent a fortune on some 6 or 7 years ago now and they're still going strong. One of the best purchases I've made. If you like them, and they're pretty timeless then definitely do it. You won't regret it

I love them, they are a bit glam, albeit in a classic, stylish way.
i find my prescription specs invaluable especially for driving, both in the winter and summer.

With care they will last a long time and be able to be reglazed several times. So a good investment not only for your eyes but for your pocket as they are classic and go with whatever you wear.

Thanks all. I think that’s all the positivity I needed to take the plunge. There is a slight variation (Havana as opposed to the tortoishell) is this lense tint/frame colour better? Is there one that is more classic/current? I feel like I’m looking into every details waaaay too much 🤦🏻‍♀️

I would go with whichever suits you best. Not what is ‘ current’. If it suits you it will always look classy and stylish. Some people suit warm colours and some suit cooler ones.
Fashion changes annually and you are going to have these for many years. Get those which suit you and you love to wear. Or they will be an expensive five minute wonder.

If you don't want to spend so much - they have some fantastic styles on 'good lookers' at a fraction of the price. Maybe you could get some that will do for now off there, you could take your time to get the more expensive ones..

zippyswife · 17/04/2024 15:57

@lemonsaretheonlyfruit I will take a look thank you!

I love my prescription sunglasses. They are well overdue to be replaced with a prescription I can actually see properly in but will be doing that soon. What I'm not so keen on is the flat lenses whereas the non prescription ones I am drawn to have a much more rounded lens. I guess that's because of the prescription. Anyway, I wear mine all year round if there is a bit of brightness in the sky.

I get my prescription sunglasses from Pret A Voir - they have all the brands and the total cost is about half what high st opticians quote. Worth a look.

Although those ones you can get cheaper at Spex4Less
