Makeup remover recommendations for sensitive eyes and waterproof mascara

I’m currently looking for an eye makeup remover for my waterproof mascara. I have quite sensitive eyes and now that I’m in my mid 40s I have noticed I’m losing a fair amount of my eyelashes, so definitely need something that won’t remove any more!

I’d be really grateful for any recommendations you may have!

Thanks so much!

If your lashes are falling out a lot, for me that was the mascara and not the make up remover. I was using no7 stay perfect and losing lashes every time (using le Roche posay remover or just Cetaphil wash). Went back to le Roche posay mascara, and it was life changing. Problem is it does require regular touch ups whereas stay perfect lasted all day

Petroleum Jelly most people know of the Vaseline make.i have dry eye syndrome and the blephasol I was prescribed made my eyes sore. Recommended to me by a plastic surgeon I worked with Many moons ago. Cheap as chips, moisturises the eye area (don't tell anyone, Im 73 and hardly a crows foot in sight, have been accused of having Botox)

Nivea’s double effect eye make up remover. In my experience it works as well as some
of the more high end brands I’ve tried. I soak the cotton wool and gently wipe.

That’s interesting. I’m currently using the No.7 intense volume mascara. Maybe I’ll try a different one for a while and see if it makes a difference! Thank you!

I second the Nivea double effect. For years, I used the Clinique 'take the day off' remover which was great. But, I got the Nivea one when I ran out and wasn't near a stockist. Works just as well in my opinion and is a fraction of the cost.

I used to use Body Shop camomile one but started to find it a bit stingy and now prefer Garnier micellar water, effective and seems v gentle

EarwegoagainII · 15/04/2024 19:57

Johnson’s baby shampoo it’s really gentle and I was recommended it on here and haven’t looked back

Flapearedknave · 15/04/2024 22:07

You need an oil to dissolve the mascara.

I love superfacialist vit c cleanser.

SoapCollector · 16/04/2024 00:00

Could try coconut oil and a damp cotton wool pad?

PatMu · 16/04/2024 00:03

Another vote for the Nivea Double effect, one swipe of the cotton pad and it removes all eye make up

QuizzlyBears · 16/04/2024 02:36

Pai cleansing oil or the Body Shop camomile cleanser.

learieonthewildmoor · 16/04/2024 04:31

Clinique Cleansing balm.

Thank you all! Lots of ideas for me to look into. Much appreciated! X

a damp flannel & a moisturiser for most make up. a little kitchen oil for the mascara.
waterproof tends to be quite drying. I rub a little moisturiser over my eyes & lashes after cleaning which seems to help.

AnImaginaryCat · 16/04/2024 06:30

The most gentle remover - regatdimg pressure/contact needed to the eyes to remove mascara is with a cleasing balm.

There's plenty of affordable ones to try out with too. Such as the Aldi one or Elf.

DrSeuss · 16/04/2024 06:34

Lidl olive oil and a warm, damp flannel. Run on the oil, wait a few seconds, wipe off. Everything else gives me dermatitis on my lids.

Graspingnettles · 16/04/2024 06:35

Definitely Nivea double effect

Yep, I swear by Nivea Double Effect, it’s around £3

AnchorWHAT · 16/04/2024 08:41

I have always used baby oil for mine and it takes off the lot

Rina66 · 16/04/2024 09:51

Nivea double effect for me too, everything else makes my eyes puff up and I'm not particularly sensitive to skin care. I loved the Boots pads that came in a little blue tub, used those for 20 + years and it took me ages to find a replacement.
It's interesting about the Vaseline though @Nannyfannybanny I'll definitely try that, my Nan used it on her face and hands for years and she had amazing skin.

This is the one I come back to every time. It's cheap as chips on Amazon too. I love it!
<side-note, it's also brilliant for removing the sticky outline of your HRT patches!>
