Please choose me a dress for my 30th!

I'm in DIRE need to get out of my comfort zone. I always end up with a black fitted dress for all occasions. Looking for something utterly fabulous for a big birthday.

It's my 30th coming up. I would like to avoid something boxy and sensible. I'm getting my hair and make up done and want to use the chance to look fabulous. It's an outdoor garden party with a festival theme (it's all been planned for me) so I'm trying to find a dress that will suit me and look fabulous. I've attached a pic of me In case it helps at all. I'm 5'3 and a size 6-8.

Budget £150

As I need to factor in new shoes. I still love a heel but will probably wear a wedge as it's on the lawn.

Thanks all! Please send me some suggestions!

Does it need to be new? With a budget of £150 including shoes, is it worth looking for nearly new/vintage on Vinted or even Ebay?

I've just had by 40th and wore this dress from Oliver Bonas. I'm not usually one for bright colours but loved this so decided to go for it. Can be dressed up or worn with trainers.

Happy up coming 30th! With your figure you are going to look amazing. I am pretty crap at picking clothes. Do any of the big department shops near you do a free personal shopper service? I know some of them in my closest big city do but I've never used it.

I LOVE this!! The back is beautiful

I might do this with a gold wedge pair of shoes?

I think it may be too long for you. Though I do agree it is fabulous

The only thing I will say is that a fellow shortie, maxi dresses swamp me (I usually get midi dresses if I want a maxi) - depends how comfortable you are in vertiginous heels!

The choices on this thread are bizarre! She’s turning 30 with a stunning figure and it’s a festival theme?! So many are so casual and/or frumpy

Oh my goodness I LOVE these! I'm going to order the black and wear with mustard coloured cowboy boots.

Thank you so much!

I'm going to order the black 😏 Glad you enjoyed the quick virtual expedition out of your comfort zone!

Obviously, it's your party, wear whatever makes you feel beautiful. I was kind of hoping you'd choose the big red jumpsuit or a sequin unitard, though - you may never again have such a perfect opportunity to wear something so gobsmacking to such good effect. (That said, I wore sequin shorts & crop top to my 40th - and a black dress to my 30th, so I should shut up.)

Happy birthday!

If you’re going to take issue with other people’s suggestions, I’m sure just as many people would say Oh Polly/Glitter Romance is cheap, tacky, synthetic fast fashion. You can offer your opinion without telling other people their opinion is wrong.

Literally couldn't agree more, the kind of things I'd wear to a regular family bbq!

Knew I'd also get jumped on for suggesting the Oh Polly dresses but SHES 30 with an amazing figure not 55 ladies..

Yeah exactly! Nothing against them I’d wear them on a summers day or to a wedding even!

But personally for my 30th with a figure like that I’d want to show it off and be the centre of attention. Even, dare I say it, a bit “tacky”😅

Has anyone suggested this company yet?

Back in my 20's/early 30's clubbing and festival days we all wore Karen Millen, Kookai, Morgan de Toi<Miss Sixty, Diesel and there were quite a few independent brands (Hyper Hyper) where you could get good dresses including Portobello Road. I especially liked my crochet Karen Millen tops, dresses, or anything like that.

The ASOS sequin ones here look nice but reading reviews on both are shockingly made (sequins coming off) which isn't good - but then again that's ASOS for you. You could do vintage shops/websites but you could search forever for that, maybe Etsy or Vinted?

For your age and size and occasion basically yes, short, glam and fun. The only thing I would say (there was a pretty mint/light green dress here), if it were me, I'd avoid really light coloured ones, only because I've had it happen to me, someone spilled a drink over me, I got burger/hot dog ketchup/mustard over it and with heels/shoes just be sure you can walk in them - my best mate wore massive heels (she was used to them normally!) and tripped over I think tent peg rope things at one festival and sprained her ankle! Owww! spent most of the rest of whichever festival we were at (V I think) in the tent, bandaged up by St John Ambulance crew and getting pissed/off her face to numb the pain!

Fuck yeah - tacky is the word - glitter galore, hair mascara/dye, body paint - all the tacky! Grin Add in a little retro feather boa.
