Having make up done professionally

Maybe a silly question 😅

I’m having my make up done by a make up artist for the first time ever this week. It’s a trial for my wedding.

Is there anything that may be handy to take with me for the trial or to do before hand?

Im assuming just normal skincare routine in the morning?

Overthinking it I’m sure but I feel a bit uncomfortable about having someone do it for me but equally uncomfortable doing it myself when there are professional photos and I’m terrible with make up 😂

I used to work as a Clinique and then Chanel consultant and we did bridal consultations as part of our work - l eventually went freelance and did bridal make up, travelling to weddings etc. To be honest if you have a consultation booked I would just ask lots of questions, buy any specific products you need and practice a few times yourself before the big day and I’m sure you’ll be able to get a good result by doing it yourself if you want to. Most of the beauty counters offer complimentary make overs and if you explain you’re looking for ideas for your wedding you’ll get lots of help.

Yes, normal skincare (or the skincare you'll do on the wedding morning), you want to make sure makeup sits properly on top.

I also took a list of my skincare to check that the mua was ok with it (she mentioned that The Ordinary hyaluronic acid seems to pill easily under lots of foundations, so wanted to check my other serums were ok. They were).

And then it was a nice chat about what makeup I usually wear and what I liked / disliked. It was a great collaborative process where she kept showing and asking my opinion until we were both happy.

I then wore it all day & evening and made sure I liked how it still looked before bed.

Ask for the name of the lippy so you can buy one to reapply through the day (eg before photos)

@Pigeonqueen Thanks 😊 Unfortunately we live about an hour away from our nearest city that has make up counters etc. I only have 6 weeks until the wedding and I’m working flat out until then as well as having a toddler and DH works away from home so I just know I don’t have the time to visit a counter and practice multiple times until I’m happy 😅

I’m not great with make up to start with so I’m hoping this will be the easier option 🤞🏼

@Uncooperativefingers Perfect, thanks so much 😊 I have made a note of skincare and normal make up shades etc. I’m not a big make up person so I’m a bit clueless about anything beyond the basics.

I’ve saved some picture inspiration of what I like and don’t like in the hope that I’ll be able to show her if I’m not managing to explain myself very well!

And I have booked for first thing in the morning so that I can see how it holds up for the day 🤞🏼

Great tip on the lipstick 😊
