Covering few grey hairs in brown, never dyed hair

Hi,

My first grey hairs started showing up about 5 years ago and are becoming more and more noticeable especially in my fringe and on my temples. My hair is medium brown and I have never dyed it before.

I want to cover the greys somehow without dying my whole head or without adding blonde highlights. Can anyone suggest anything? I have no experience of dyeing/covering but I’m ready to give it a try if someone can advise me!

Thanks

L'Oréal spray in grey concealer. You literally just spray it on the greys. It costs about £10.

Have you tried a colour enhancing shampoo and conditioner? I have red hair but I've used John Frieda radiant red which has a subtle impact and infuse my colour which is more noticeable but not permanent and no patching because you just use as normal shampoo and conditioner, I tend to use that one 2/3 times a week, the shampoo is more subtle, the conditioner more noticeable. It doesn't fully colour grey but it tones it in, so it looks natural. Also makes my hair really shiny. They both do brunette variants

Two non-permanent options to try:

  1. Try a semi-permanent box of dye in a lighter brown than your hair. It will likely do bugger all to your brown hair and just colour the greys a bit. and it will wash out reasonably quickly if you don’t like it (start with one of the 6-8 washes affairs).
  2. The same but use blonde hair dye. I know you said you don’t want highlights - but this sort of turns the greys into highlights (and doesn’t require the expense of actual highlights). It may just soften the effect of the greys a bit.

The John Freida defy grey range is great, check it out from Boots!

There are some L'Oréal sprays that are ok too, as well as brunette Batiste for a v.subtle bit of blending.

Also, stick with semi-permanent as it'll blend better over time, I've had 2 hair dressers both day it gives a more natural look and to always avoid permanent dye.

Or try the plantur 39 brown shampoo.

L'Oreal Magic Touch 1st Greys. I use it on the parting and the temples. Just a fine wand that you stroke on. So easy. Lasts until shampooed out. I think it cost about £10.
