What should I buy from Cult Beauty

I am 48 - I wear very basic natural makeup (usually No7) and don’t currently use any skincare products, my skin is blotchy in places but not so bad looking in others, fine lines, a bit puffy and a tendency to be a touch spotty, I am overweight but losing weight so I have double chin with a tendency to look a bit jowl-y from the side (like deputy dog), I am not remotely glamorous - 5ft 4 size 14 and i live my life in jeans and jumpers

I entered a competition to win £500 of cult beauty products on a whim to sort myself out…and I won… and I am now looking at the website not knowing where to start!

I don’t think I want to buy makeup

I think I need to look at skincare as although I am probably about 30 years too late to start - once I’ve started and find products that work I’d like to think I would continue

I quite fancy one of those facial
toning devices but I have read that many reviews I’m not sure which one to for if any!

Or do I look at the menopause section and fill myself with supplements!?

If you were in my shoes what would you buy

I got the Sunday Riley go to bed kit a few weeks ago and I really like the products on my 53 year old skin.

IDontHateRainbows · 04/04/2024 23:40

Second the Sunday Riley. I'd be buying the kit and a huge tub of the vitamin c mousturiser.

Oh what a lovely problem to have.

Do you like perfume? Maybe a scent sampler if you do, with a view to buying a larger size of whatever takes your fancy.
I like Malin and Goetz and Replica by Maison Margiela.

as it’s not going to come out of your own pocket, I’d go for a toning device. I think Nuface may be slightly better from what I’ve read, but search for nuface and foreo bear here and you will find lots of info.
you will have over £100 left. With that money I’d buy a nice cleansing balm with a lovely scent (emma hardie or farmacy) and a good moisturiser (I like the biossance peptide cream).

Mercurial123 · 05/04/2024 05:43

I'd get an LED red light face mask.

Moisturiser nice candle killian perfume

Gosh, what a treat! I never, ever win anything, no matter how many random competitions I enter. And I do spend quite a bit of time on the Cult Beauty site …

I would definitely suggest buying something outside your normal budgetary parameters - and if you are, as you state, overweight and planning to lose weight then anything to counter the inevitable sagging would be sensible. So I’d suggest doing thorough research and then going for the most up to date and powerful toning device they stock. (As far as I’m aware Nu Face gets better reviews than Foreo.)

Alternatively - you could research basic skin care and use your winnings to gradually experiment with cleansers, serums, etc, while committing to spending the money you’re saving on products on monthly toning / massage sessions at a reputable salon.

Either way it’s a lovely problem to have.

Oh wow! How exciting! Are you near a John Lewis or Space NK or something? I'd go and have a good browse somewhere IRL, try things on and get some advice before spending your vouchers online.
I'm not a big fan of devices but I do love skincare, make up, perfume and haircare. Personally I would be splurging on a mixture of things like Living Proof hair stuff, really expensive perfume (Byredo, Frédéric Malle), lovely make up (Chantecaille, Charlotte Tilbury, Hourglass, Laura Mercier), and I'd get a few things that will last like Suqqu make up brushes.

ijjypup · 05/04/2024 07:10

I've just started using IT cosmetics CC glow cream. Nice and light

londoner72 · 05/04/2024 07:13

I'd buy a good cleanser, vitamin b, vitamin c, salicylic acid, retinol and an spf!

Pillowfights · 05/04/2024 07:31

I entered that competition too with the intention of getting one of the LED face thingies as if I'd ever win.

Keep a look out for Cult Beauty 20% discounts which happen very regularly then your money will go further.

In answer to your question, go for a device (prevention is better than cure!) and some fab skincare. I love Sunday Riley Vit c moisturiser and Emma Hardie cleansing balm is lovely.
