Which gentle face wash for 11 yo dd?

11 year old DD is getting the occasional spot, and more frequently these last couple of months.

Have heard good things about Cerave but there are several face washes in this brand. Which is the best for a tween who is not yet getting bad spots but certainly could do with a once-daily gentle face-wash?

Also, would I need to get a gentle light moisturiser too, just in case a face wash makes her skin feel a little tight?

Cerave SA is the one you want

MooGoo milk wash. Available from Holland and Barratt and worth every penny if you use it on your face alone as I do. Very, very gentle.

Simple is very good. Honestly, my two DD's have tried all sorts of other stuff and always go back to Simple. Body Shop Aloe was amazing, but they stopped doing some, and changed the ingredients of others, so not the same anymore, also expensive.

Superdrug Simply Pure Hydrating Day serum

Simple is awful and really bad for your skin. It really dries it out too

Do not buy anything by Simple

Amie was recommended on here, and we tried it. DD loves it and thinks it has helped with spots. You can buy it in waitrose.

I buy DD Dermalogica Clear Start which has SA in it

I agree... I haven't had any luck with Simple and find it anything but 'simple' for my skin.

My DD uses the Nip & Fab teen range. It’s been brilliant for her skin. I’d definitely recommend it!

My 11yo uses Byoma creamy jelly cleanser and then a Byoma moisturiser if needed. She seems happy with that. Also likes the starskin stickers for the odd spot that does pop up.

She really didn’t like the Spots & Stripes cleanser or Neutrogena.

PleaseStandUp · 03/04/2024 14:16

My pre-teens found a lot of cleansers to be too harsh and drying on their skin.
They love using dermalogica clear start range that’s specifically for young skin - the foaming cleanser and aqua jelly are staples here and 13yo has most of the range for use as needed (nothing has calmed a breakout quite so well as the clearing booster)

Yes Cerave SA and there is also a spot cream that you can use on the spots. My 12 year old started to break out with spots in the Summer and it is being kept at bay with the above.

Thanks everyone! Hugely helpful!

DD found Cerave very stripping to the point that it actually caused acne. She used The Ren Evercalm cleansing milk and really likes it, very gentle on the skin

Magien · 03/04/2024 22:32

Cerave is great, the freederm fast track spot gel is great for helping clear spots faster without being too much on the skin.

CallMeMabel · 04/04/2024 18:06

Cerave caused a huge outbreak on my DD, took months to clear up.

It’s such horribly harsh stuff - I can’t understand why so many people think it’s so good. Plenty of better alternatives out there

My 8 year old (tiny girl about 21kg and nowhere near puberty) was getting redness near her nose. It looked like spots or maybe from sweating - she does a lot of sport. She has used my Superdrug naturally radiant hot cloth cleanser each evening for a week and it has cleared it. So she is using it twice a week this week. But I am worried about her using on such young skin.

Would any of the recommendations be suitable for someone so young. She is sensible so I don’t worry about her not using it correctly.

I also want her to use daily upf but am not sure which one to buy for her.

cerave foaming cleanser or salicylic acid cleanser and simple hydrating light moisturiser
