Grey hair inspiration wanted

Hello, my hair is very grey. It looks dry and coarse at the top. I don’t know what to do with it. I’m think about redyeing it (at home box dye) but don’t want to deal with roots. Also, I’m not keen on how dark the colouring of box dyes is for the first few weeks.
Can anyone recommend something I could do? Perhaps a tint? Also, any recommendations for treatments for dryness?

I’m 43 and have green eyes and fair skin.

Look at emchenhair on Instagram, she does some amazing things with her grey haired clients. I'm tempted to fly to the US just so she can do my hair!

It gorgeous!

Don't dye it! Maybe go to a salon for a deep conditioning treatment or something?

Maxtryturn · 03/04/2024 12:10

Thank you @RosiePosieCantLogIn , that’s very kind. I think I’d feel happier with the colour if my hair was in lovely condition. I’ll talk to my hairdresser about a deep conditioning treatment, thanks.

Thank you @useitorlose , I’ll have a look.

I think worth going to a hairdressers. Especially in this kind of transition case, they can really help you could try getting a couple of different colour consultations from different hairdressers. I think a box die might be a bit harsh personally, and if you don’t like it it’s difficult to remove. But agree, natural can also look very nice, and as a previous post to suggest maybe spent some time and money on deep conditioning your hair? Hairdresser might also be able to help with that to start off with.

And remember a block box dye when you have grey coming through, you will have to continually deal with grey roots growing through. Natural can look great especially if you have a nice silvery colour coming through

@JamOnWeds thanks for your reply. I’ll try to speak to a hairdresser who does some of my family’s hair, and also my own hairdresser (if I can get hold of him! He hasn’t yet responded).
I’ve bought a deep conditioning treatment from Amazon (Tresemme coconut) and will see if I can get my hair into better condition myself. If I don’t see a noticeable improvement I’ll find out the cost of a hairdresser doing it.

@Maxtryturn I think a good hairdresser can offer good, objective advice if you’re lucky. And good recommendations. A treatment at a hairdressers probably won’t do all that much, but if you can afford it it can start you off. If you have the money I think Philip Kingsley hair shampoos, conditioners etc is also meant to be good. I notice the difference if I use a good product.

I have added a few blonde highlights
myself (lol) though I still look fairly silvery on top. However, the blonde is very drying on hair, especially when it grows and towards the ends and is maybe overlaid again.

I myself think I am going to let it go from this point on. I will finally embrace the silver grey. It will possibly make me look a bit older to be honest, but well this is who I am! And my hair should hopefully improve its condition too :).

Omg don't dye your hair!
Take biotin supplements and do lots of deep conditioning treatments. Oil scalp massages. Book a proper blow dry.
Keep a trimmed hair cut. Do all that and it will look more sleek.

I use purple shampoo and a rich conditioner. Was complimented the other week by a younger man.

I would say a good cut is very important. I can't tell from your photograph.

My DIL also bought me some lovely tongs to smooth and bounce my hair.

I use My Hair Doctor instant hair repair...a pre-wash (on wet hair) treatment & left on as long as possible. Rinse off then shampoo etc. as usual. You will feel the difference after the first use! And I have curly (greying thick) hair. There is a 3 pce set including the pre-wash: serum spray & hydrating oil! I have tried almost everything -Olaplex etc. and found this to work well!!
