I posted this in health as well but wondered if anyone had had this procedure and could tell me about it.
I saw a plastic surgeon and they said I needed a blepharoplasty procedure. But I got a second opinion from consultant ophthalmologist and I need a Ptosis procedure.
I just wondered if anyone had had this done.

Hello looking for some advice/help anything really mostly just feed back hoping someone else has had this done even better if it’s a child!
our 5 month old baby will be having ptosis surgery (upper eye lid) he has a drooping eye lid one side. Possible excessive skiN on the other side so may need lifting in the future.
Op will be at great almond street eye unit.
I have all trust as I know this is great hospital. Just looking for a parent that can talk me through it a bit more… ie what was recovery like etc was your baby in pain, what does the end result look like im just a very panicked parent. Ive been told he may never close his eye again and if he does it will never be completely. Im having all sorts off thoughts off him being bullied in school for not “ looking the same as everyone else.” I hope for his sake it’s not to noticeable as I’ve told it will scar the eye lid.
i will love my child Unconditionally no matter what may I add but other kids can be very cruel and this worries me.
Thanks in advance xx

Hi I had ptosis surgery & my son also had different eye surgery when he was a baby... The recovery from my ptosis surgery was very manageable, I had discomfort the first night or two and needed lots of drops etc for the first couple of days...but it really was fine. I had my surgery under the lid so there weren't any stitches on the lid.

When my son had eye surgery (strabismus) also at GOSH when he was about 15 months old the only thing I remember is that it wasn't easy to get drops in his eyes. So perhaps your son being younger would make that easier as he will hopefully be more compliant. The risk of not being able to close his lid is a risk of over correction isn't it? I guess the question is how experienced is the surgeon and what level of confidence do you have in them.

Good luck with all of this, I know it's hard making these decisions and going through this with babies.
