Box dye that really is ashy

I’m tired of buying box dyes which all call themselves ash but are in fact very warm toned. Dark ash blond, light ash brown etc. none of them are ashy and all of them are very warm. Has anyone actually found one that is ashy as it claims to be?

To cover white hairs I should have said . So something that will cover greys (white really) but not leave them golden, caramel or anything else warm!

I gave up and got professional dye (Koleston?) from amazon, plus peroxide and a mixing bowl and brush. It works out cheaper for just doing roots as you can get several uses out of a tube.

I agree with PP that you need to go down the proper dye route. I use Majirel. They have a really cool and ashy range. Get a hairdresser to advise you on the exact shade and the strength of the developer and then you can do it yourself at home. You get much better results and it's cheaper.

I’m no hairdresser but I do have an ashy blonde balayage. My understanding is it’s the toner that makes all the difference. Do you use a purple/silver shampoo? I use the Fudge one and if I leave it on for a few minutes it works as a toner.

Preference box dye in the shade Iceland is perfect for this. No yellow or warm tones at all, as long as you use the violet hair mask it comes with every week.
