Bras for short women

PotatoPudding · 02/04/2024 09:02

I am 5’2” with a very short body. I have trouble finding bras that actually adjust short enough to keep my 30GGs in a good position that suits my frame. In a good fitting bra (Bravissimo used to do an amazing style but discontinued it years ago), there are only 6 inches between the bottom of my bra and my waistband, so it’s very easy for my boobs to sit far too low down my torso.

I wear the Freedom wireless bra on a daily basis but it doesn’t give a nice shape under anything as close fitting as a t-shirt.

Does anyone else have this problem? Has anyone found a solution?

I understand the problem though don’t share it as I’m long- bodied. It might be worth your asking a company called Ample Bosom for advice - they do lots of bra styles , manufacturers that Bravissimo don’t carry, and the owner knows her stock really well.

@Keepingongoing thank you. I wouldn’t have thought to do that. I will get in touch.

I have a similar problem as I'm short waisted despite being taller . The best fit I've found is curvy Kate, but obviously only if you're busty

I think Curvy Kate start at 32 band but I will double check. Thank you.

As someone currently on the hunt for a bikini or swimsuit at the moment I feel your pain and will follow with interest. 5ft and often sew up bra straps to shorten them.

I should probably get a needle and thread out and see if I can do a decent enough job.

Good luck finding a swimsuit!

@PotatoPudding I think that detaching a bra strap and sewing it back on would be one of the easier bra alterations.

Another thought is to have a look at Ewa Michalak- they are a Polish company and do a very wide range of sizes, and design for a body shape which is more common there - narrow frame but relatively larger breasts. I think that they might do a custom fit bra too. You might have a look at Bella Rosa lingerie in the UK, as they carry Ewa M styles.

Would something like this help?

https://www.next.co.uk/style/ST065923/363270?gadsource=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwwLOwBhBFEiwAmSEQAbXqPvOHXem0s0onwDnAv6bicKZmNa12cR4WX1ZVSJ2HTZsKS7urBoC1l4QAvDDBwE&gclsrc=aw.ds#363270

I have a small frame and have trouble with long straps and also with the strap spacing being too wide for my shoulders so these help and also take up some of the "slack" in the straps

For £4, they’re worth a try.

Buy a multi way bra, and get some shorter straps to use with it? Maybe some of the more specialist retailers can help, such as Rigby and Peller.

PuneorPlayonWords · 03/04/2024 10:20

I find Fantasie bras good (I'm a very similar build to you). The straps shorten well and don't stretch as the day goes on.

I find them really uncomfortable. One
of the reasons I switched to wireless was because the wire digs in my pits. Which particular style do you wear?

@PotatoPudding - I have this exact problem as well.

Very expensive but the best bras I’ve found are Prima Donna. They do at least last. I don’t even feel like I’m wearing a bra ( did have to try one a few different styles as I also need a certain cup shape)

PotatoPudding · 03/04/2024 11:27

@Chitterchatterchoo I haven’t heard of this brand. I will check it out. I can only wear plunge. Balcony are awful on me.

I hadn’t thought of this. I need to get my arse to a city and try stuff on.

I tailor my own. I cut the strap. Lop off an inch/ inch and a half and then sew it back. Not ideal but at least then I get the bra I want in the size I want. I also feed back to the company exactly what I had to do to make their bra fit.

PotatoPudding · 03/04/2024 11:31

@Stormbornform
good idea on both counts.

Sorry if I haven’t replied to anyone personally. You have been so helpful and given options I didn’t know existed.

Yeah, it's hard to get the right shape cup too. I think I wear the Rebecca (the lovely woman in the lingerie shop near me just handed me my "perfect bra" and she was right so i didn't ask questions!) It has high side bands which I find put the wires in the right place, and I've fairly wide set boobs too.

Thank you. This looks lovely. I like nice, plain bras.

I can’t wear balcony either. Weirdly the full cup from Prima Donna fit me though.

Actually the Rebecca is the only Fantasie bra I can wear - but it’s still only OK and a bit low straps.
