Will hair grow back after using a Philips lumea? Made a mistake.

I've always had a bush. Trimmed it but did occasionally like to shave for special occasions.

I bought a home IPL thingamijgigy and tried to use it with a landscaped triangle bush (zapped the underneath and sides)
But I found it way too tricky.

So I shaved everything off and used it. For months.

But now I really want my hair back, on my mons pubis anyways. But it's 90% gone and super patchy.

I have a smear booked in next month.
I'm 40 years old, I don't want to go with a plucked chicken, bald fanny 😭😭

I am sure the nurse will appreciate not having to draw back the curtains before inserting the speculum.

Patchyfadge · 31/03/2024 21:43

😂

I just don't like being bald. I've never been bald.

It was quite freeing for a while but I sort of thought once I'd stopped it would grow back but now I'm thinking it won't as it's just so patchy.

If you've used it for months, it's unlikely to grow back

PotatoPudding · 31/03/2024 21:45

I had mine professionally done years ago. No regrets.

Shit. Ever???

I thought it would just slow growth so you'd just have to shave once a month or something.

The Phillips website suggests it can be as long as 12 months before regrowth is seen, but admittedly it’s a bit vague.

Pinktruffle · 31/03/2024 22:03

I did my arms and legs about 10 years ago with a Phillips Lumea, 10 years and two pregnancies (hormone fluctuations can cause new hair growth) and my legs and arms are still hair free so no, it's unlikely to grow back if you've been doing it for months.

AlohaRose · 31/03/2024 22:08

Did you not read the instructions? I’m not sure it’s even designed to be used for months at a time (or supposed to be necessary). I used one on my legs about 4 years ago(and a bit the following year) and my hair regrowth is still very fine and patchy.

Pinktruffle · 31/03/2024 22:11

You are supposed to use it weekly for 6 to 8 weeks in a row depending on thickness of hair etc. I have thick dark Asian hair (and PCOS woohoo) so stopping my hair growth is a difficult task but 8 weeks of consistent use and it worked

It's not actually a Philips one. It's an amazon dupe

And it says use twice weekly for a month. Once a week for another month. Then monthly.

Which is what I've done.

Yeah only do it about twice a year these days and it's very light, sporadic regrowth. Definitely no bush in sight (which is how I like it)

lotsofpeoplenametheirswords · 31/03/2024 22:19

What's the link to the dupe please?!

FredaFox · 31/03/2024 22:20

I'd love one of those but don't think it works on fair hair

BartiRum · 31/03/2024 22:22

I’m impressed they actually work!! I might look into one now!!
however for your baldy bits, if it’s not growing back I would just get the lot off rather than be patchy!

Patchyfadge · 31/03/2024 22:23

I don't want to be 60 with no public hair 😂😭

I did this with a lumea and it's back

rainbowbee · 31/03/2024 22:26

I've been looking at these but they said they don't work on blonde hair. Anyone know anything that does?

AfterTheWatershed · 31/03/2024 23:12

No, they work best on the contrast between skin/hair so they don’t work on blond (or white/grey) hair. I am very pale but my body hair is very dark so it has worked very well on my legs. I only need to shave them about once every 3 months and even then there isn’t much to shave. For some reason it didn’t work anywhere near as well on my armpits and the hair grows back after a couple of weeks.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 31/03/2024 23:14

@Patchyfadge May I suggest a merkin?

LadyFrumpOfFumpington · 31/03/2024 23:28

I vote you draw some back on with a biro 😆

Sorry but I am hearing the opening chords from ‘Any Dream Will Do’ now!

winewolfhowls · 01/04/2024 08:19

Well I'm a hairy Mary and if I stop using my lumea it definitely grows back, albeit patchily. Over time it will all grow back but slowly. Long term you'll be good. Short term, shave the patches back!

Thank you for that 😀

Girlwithapple · 01/04/2024 15:07

I bought a lumea pre covid but haven't used it in ages. My armpits are still hair free and also my lower legs so, on me, it hasn't grown back yet, despite not being used in probably over 2 years.
