Anyone know of an SPF 50 which meets these criteria?

ballpithell · 28/03/2024 13:44

I've decided to stop using my normal SPF for various reasons. Looking for suggestions for one that meets the following criteria?:

  • factor 50
  • mineral based
  • not mattifying
  • no pilling under makeup - v important
  • not ludicrously expensive - reasonably priced as I'm using daily

Thank you!

No idea but following
I'm about to try la roche posay

alwaysrootingfortheantihero · 28/03/2024 13:56

I'm not sure if it's mineral based but it is plant based (cruelty free, vegan and coral friendly) but have you tried Altruist?

I'm using their anti-redness/tinted version and it works really well under makeup. I know their standard spfs get rave reviews too.

Expo23 · 28/03/2024 14:00

Ultra Violette Lean Screen?
I love the Queen Screen so I haven't tried this one, therefore, I can't personally recommend. However, from the blurb and reviews it seems to tick the right boxes.

Francisflute · 28/03/2024 14:02

Thank you farmer light sun essence is fantastic although you'll have to check if it's mineral based

HollywoodTease · 28/03/2024 14:10

I swear by Nivea Sun face Q10 factor 50. I just checked and there is a Nivea Sun Mineral also factor 50 in the range.

Worth a try for under a tenner?

I second altruist and the PPA is excellent.

La Roche Posay Anthelios, all the way. It's a mineral sunscreen to boot. Love the stuff. Not greasy.
I don't wear make-up but my son's girlfriend uses the same sunscreen with full make-up (foundation, powder, the works) and it sits beautifully. No pilling at all.

TheOneWithUnagi · 28/03/2024 14:20

Another vote for la Roche posay. I have oily skin and it sits perfectly.

App13 · 28/03/2024 14:22

Yes ultra violette hydrating ,makes skin randomly matt, so utterly gentle on skin and I even believe it pumps mine up !

Ah yes I've been using that one! But it's pilling all the time! And price has recently gone up to over a tenner, so not worth it now.

unconditional83 · 28/03/2024 14:25

Definitely NOT mattifying. It's too aging. I need dewy!

soberfabulous · 28/03/2024 14:26

Neutrogena dry touch is the best for this! I've been using it for years and my dermatologist says it's one of the few that has been tested in blind trials and found to work.

I use factor 100 (live in a hot country and am very fair) the factor 70 is here:

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunscreen, SPF 70, 88 mL (Pack of 2) amzn.eu/d/6AAKGvx

Make up goes on like a dream and it's really well priced.

urrrgh46 · 28/03/2024 14:29

The Ultrasun face SPF 50 anti pigmentation fits your criteria exactly except it's bit pricey at £28

Cattrovert · 28/03/2024 14:33

I used to buy a Simple factor 50, not sure if its still available, I need some for summer

MissPeachyKeen · 28/03/2024 14:35

I've just applied La Roche Posay Anthelios UV Mune400 factor 50+ for the first time

✔️Not stinging or causing redness (I have incredibly reactive skin thats currently more sensitive than usual)
✔️ non-greasy
✔️ Invisible / no white cast

Have yet to see how it sits under make up but currently not pilling. It's runnier than I'm used to but that's OK

SparrowFeet · 28/03/2024 14:53

If it's mineral based you're after I'd imagine it would be quite hard for it not to be mattifying, especially if you want high factor which means more of the mattifying minerals.

Could you not add a bit of glow back over the top?

Otherwise.. following for recommendations as that would indeed be HG.

UmCachorroVerde · 28/03/2024 15:07

I third the recommendation for Altruist. Altruist uses a mixture of mineral and chemical filters. It's very affordable, comes in different forms (moisturising fluid, anti-red cream etc.) and the primer with 50+ protection works really well under make-up/BB creams etc.
It's a British brand and, as PP said, with strong ethical - cruelty-free, vegan and also donates to a charity to support people with skin-damage in African countries.

Nivea Sun face Q10 factor 50 is something I would suggest so my routine goes something like this:
AM: Cleanse with DHC oil cleanser Apply Derma E Vitamin C Serum Apply Nivea Sun face Q10 and Cerave Moisturizer
PM: Cleanse with LRP Toleriane Cleanser for Oily Skin Apply LRP Toleriane Double Repair Moisturizer to wet skin After letting my
skin dry I apply the tretinoin 0.05% cream from skinorac to my entire face and then Apply LRP cicaplast Baumé to sensitive areas of face (nose creases,
around eyes, around lips).

Just in case anyone’s trying to save money, I used to buy La Roche Posay, and it’s good but now I get Aldi children’s factor 50 (£1.79) and it’s not really any different. It’s better in fact, because I can use as much as I like without worrying about the price.

In the end, I didn't like it!

It didn't pill under makeup but was so mattifying that it aged my dry skin until it looked like leather.

UmberMoose · 02/04/2024 15:32

I like Mune400

Does it leave a white cast?

imaginationfail83 · 02/04/2024 19:14

I have just bought the Neutrogena Dry Touch Factor 70 on Amazon - as recommended by a pp ^^. It's really really good! Very absorbent, light, no white marks and goes smoothly under makeup. Reasonably priced too.

I've been using Garnier's Super UV Invisible Serum under my make up. Feels lovely & does the job. No issues with putting make up on top of it.
