VB clothes sizes

I have been following Victoria Beckhams brand on linkedin for a while but never looked closely at her clothes. Yesterday I noticed the sizes range from 4 to 14??? I didn't even know there is a UK size 4!!!

I thought we are all about looking natural and not obsess and become anorexic so this baffled me a bit.

Do adult women really wear a 4 size?

If you look at the size guide it's about a 24inch waist which would be in the healthy range for a considerable amount of young women. Probably would have been a size 8 20 years ago.

I think I can vaguely remember having a waist that size at about 19... It's not that size anymore 😂🍫🍞😋

UK size 4 is definitely a size other shops do but it’s more common in petite ranges - I am just under 5ft tall and was between that and a 6 throughout my 20’s with a bmi of 22 so perfectly healthy weight ( sadly now in my 40’s and wouldn’t fit me now) however I don’t think they are as common in regular clothes ranges

OwlBasket · 27/03/2024 17:06

Designer sizes are usually pretty similar to the sizing in my youth. 80s. 6 is the smallest size I remember from then though and would have been about a 24 inch waist I think.

OwlBasket · 27/03/2024 17:09

Thinking about it, I’m talking about designer sizes from 10 or 15 or so years ago so no surprise there’s been a wee bit of size-inflation in the mean time 🤦‍♀️

spikypinkduvet · 27/03/2024 17:12

My dd wears a uk size 2. She’s perfectly healthy

OwlBasket · 27/03/2024 17:23

Makes sense @spikypinkduvet The smallest size available has been a 22-24 waist for donkeys years. Probably because it’s normal and healthy for the smallest built women. Number of the size just keeps going down and down

Believing8nSanta · 28/03/2024 14:41

I wear a 10 and probably before having kids I was 8. I can't imagine what 4 or 6 is like as i was quite slim in my 20s. But I'm quite tall 1.68 m ... if you are a petite lady I can see it and I also understand the designer bit but in all honesty can't imagine many women in their 20s affording these prices. 🤣

I've seen plenty of size 4s in shops. I wouldn't think it's unhealthy or too skinny. Speaking from a size 10-12 myself.

SparrowFeet · 28/03/2024 14:48

In the brands defence their sizing is pretty generous in general though. A size 10 IME from there is quite similar to a size 10 in M&S.

Believing8nSanta · 28/03/2024 14:58

Well then it must be just me ... I have never seen a size 4 in a shop. I need to go out more. 🤣😅

I've worked in a few clothes shops shops, and I've never seen a 4 either. Presumably we're talking Uk 4!

BusterGonad · 28/03/2024 15:21

I'm pretty sure even places like Topshop only went down to a 6!

My dd gets most of her stuff online as her size is rarely in the shops but asos do a petite range that starts at a size 2 so majority of her things are from there. Sometimes primark xxs is ok too it really depends on the item

Yes, this was back in the dark ages before 'flattery' sizes came in 🙄
M&S are the worst culprits by a country mile. Size 6-their teeniest size available - is huge!

dontcallmelen · 28/03/2024 16:04

I’ve just bought a pair of jeans from next size four, white company hush Zara Primark do size four probably quite a few other retailers,I agree though it’s not really a size four I have trousers dresses shorts in my wardrobe from French connection/warehouse/next that range from a size 10 down to a few size six they measure pretty much the same as a few of the newer size four bits that I have. Haven’t lost any weight over the last few years shape hasn’t changed that much clothes buying is a bloody mission now days plus I’m old short & quite slim.

PegasusReturns · 28/03/2024 19:05

VB runs quite big, so a size 4 is like the old size 6/8

DD and most of her friends struggle to get clothes now. 20 years ago when I was similarly sized I wore an 8 or XS, now young adults are having to shop in kids sections because the vanity sizes are so wild.

Believing8nSanta · 28/03/2024 21:58

That's an interesting point. I noticed same leggings were 15 quid cheaper for the kids collection for one of the sports brands and got size for age 15 which was fine for me ... not overly comfortable but I guess the money saving made it worth it. :)
So buying from the kids collection is not the worst thing ;)

I have 2 or 3 friends who routinely wear a size 4 or 6. None of them underweight, all of them very petite and slight.

QueSyrahSyrah · 28/03/2024 22:02

I'm almost sure Topshop did a 4, as one of the above friends wore tons from there.
