Do you find your hair stops liking a shampoo/conditioner ??

I've noticed my hair sometimes seems to start disliking a shampoo/conditioner.
I can use it for a few months... hair looks and styles nicely. Then suddenly my hair is dull, unmanageable, looks bad condition and refuses to look nice.

Is this a thing??

Yes!! Mine does this, but it will usually 'reset' and start liking it again after a week or so of a different one. Really annoying though.

Yes!!! Mine also starts liking stuff it fell out with. After 2 weeks of vile hair I tried some expensive stuff it hated last year and hey presto - fabulous hair today!

That's normally caused by a build up of products, so switching can help clear it. You can buy special shampoos that you use occasionally to strip away the build up. If you search for "clarifying shampoos' you'll find them....if your pushed for cost you'll find washing up liquid does the same job😂

Yes. Me too.

GoodnightAdeline · 23/03/2024 17:37

Yep! It’s like it slowly builds up then needs stripping by using something else. The only one that doesn’t is Elvive miracle clay which works amazingly on my greasy roots and dry ends.

My scalp is already twitching and itching at the thought of washing up liquid.😀

Half a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda mixed in a dollop of shampoo once a week or so does the trick I find. I use Sulphate free shampoos and they don’t clean conditioner and product away so effectively. This works for me.

l change brands regularly; use one bottle until it’s finished then swap to another. I find my hair keeps better that way.

Definitely rotate product.
90% of the time I use SLS free shampoo and silicone free conditioners because my scalp gets irritated otherwise. But every now and then I wash with a cleansing shampoo to strip any build up and reset. I make sure I use a hair mask afterwards (Banana Hair Food in the tub).

Vinegar rinses are great too.

I rarely use the same 2 days running. I have at least 2 or 3 on rotation at any time.

Yes, it has happened, though not often. Once it was a good thing, because the shampoo that had stopped working had been expensive and I replaced it with a Boots own brand, very cheap, and seemed to suit my hair really well. Unfortunately it was discontinued after a while and I had to change again. Tedious.
