Has anyone tried semi cured gel nail wraps?

MrsMouse03 · 23/03/2024 13:37

I normally use traditional nail polish but have seen these come up on my facebook feed.
They look easy to apply and remove - has anyone tried them and are they any good. Are they as easy to remove as they are shown to be?
Thank you for any help

Oh great timing! I’ve just applied mine for the first time.

They were easy enough to do. I’m not sure how long they’ll stay.

I have an issue with the fit- I have wide nails so need both sets to get a fully fitting set. I have only used the one set so several nails are a bit small. I’m waiting to see how well they stay to decide if I’ll use a a double set next time or save them for a special occasion.

They were easy enough to apply and cut, then file. I’ve got one that hasn’t stuck properly in the corner. I’ll come back when I see if they stay on.

As you can see, a bit small on the inner edge of the first two fingers.

Has anyone tried semi cured gel nail wraps?
MrsMouse03 · 23/03/2024 13:56

Ooh they look really nice. Hopefully they will stay on well, please report back.

I’ve just gone to do some research and realised I should have stretched them a bit before applying. So that makes it more cost effective, if I can get two sets out of the pack. They aren’t cheap!

HermioneWeasley · 23/03/2024 14:02

I use Lily and Fox ones (from the Australian site - free p&p). They’re not expensive - about £2 a pack.

they last about a week. Easy to put on and take off. I put a base coat on, apply the wraps, seal with a top coat and take off when ready.

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 23/03/2024 14:19

Not tried semi cured but i have used the no lamp gels from this site and they were excellent, super easy to apply and hard wearing, took off after a week as i like a new design but they would have lasted longer

Geebray · 23/03/2024 14:21

Yes, I love them.

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 23/03/2024 14:21

I also use Lily and Fox Aus site which are wraps made from normal nail polish, again i keep them on a week but most sets would have lasted longer, i find with these that CND Vinylux top coat is best, they don't shrink at the tips when i use that.

I have just been looking at this today, as my nails are pretty wrecked at the moment.

I googled and saw some reviews where they said that after taking them off, the nails seemed damaged. One even had a mould type build up on their nail 👀.

So for those who have used them a while, how do you remove them and has the glue (I assume they have glue on them) affected your natural nail at all?

I thought this was the answer I was looking for, but a bit nervous to try them now.

(I took a chance having my nails done elsewhere and she used hard gel. It was on so thick it's taken off a layer of my own nail getting them off. Hence me being very nervous but dayum, my nails look so ugly now)

KeeeeeepDancing · 23/03/2024 22:58

Yes
Yes
And yes!

Did damage my nails slightly, but no permanent damage done. They are such a good idea! So neat, so glossy. Brilliant

ChishiyaBat · 23/03/2024 23:05

I also tried some this week, they were super easy, I applied a top coat to finish which has made them more durable.

pickledandpuzzled · 24/03/2024 06:56

I’m having trouble with my hair catching under them at the cuticle. I’ve one a top coat and that’s helped a lot. They were neater before the top coat though!

I’ll look at lily and fox- that’s a bargain!

pickledandpuzzled · 24/03/2024 07:06

@HermioneWeasley @NeedthatFridayfeeling

Do the lily and fox strengthen the nails at all? Mine are very soft, easily bend and break, and I use gel for strength as much as anything else.

Lockdownmummy · 24/03/2024 07:26

I have used MoYou they were good but a bit mixed - some have lasted 2 weeks+ others less than a week.

The better you prep the longer they last I think. I do have to trim the width off some to get two full sets. Some TLC after removing for a couple of days and nails were all OK

pickledandpuzzled · 24/03/2024 07:34

We need to trade, @Lockdownmummy ! Mine nails are wider than the strips! You must have dainty hands.

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 24/03/2024 07:50

@pickledandpuzzled my nails are soft and bendy too despite using a nail hardener ☹️ with the L&F wraps If used with top coat i find they aren't as bad but will still bend. Glitter wraps tend to be the thickest so stronger.

SnappyMcMuffin · 24/03/2024 08:26

I'm allergic to all types of gel/BIAB/acrylic so have tried nail wraps, I really like them but the down sides are you can still see ridges etc in your nails through them; there is also no protection for weak nails. I like the look of the semi cured ones but worries I would be allergic to these too.

I'm curious about the no cure gel nails linked above - I'm trying to choose a set now!

MrsMouse03 · 24/03/2024 09:42

Thanks for all replies, I might take a chance and give them a try. Will report back Smile

Ok, serious scrubbing today and one popped off. I didn’t apply them brilliantly, first time and all, and the others look ok. I think the nail underneath chipped away which left the nail edge exposed.

no damage though.

HangingOnJustAbout · 25/03/2024 19:32

I didn't like the semi cured wraps, they seemed very thick to me but were easy to apply and stretch to fit where necessary.

I'm a nail sticker convert, the lily and fox ones are top quality but I also buy packs from amazon which last well with a top coat. Trick is to apply just before bed so they don't get wet for 6+ hours.

pickledandpuzzled · 28/03/2024 14:04

A few days in and all is going well. I did a curable topcoat to stop hair catching underneath the edges. Ultimately I don’t want to do that, as I’m trying to avoid the chemicals. I had started to have that scorching sensation which is apparently allergy related. I’ll keep my remaining set for special occasions I think, and try out the Lilly and Fox ones for regular use.

As far as durability- I’ve spent 3 hours in the water and steam/saunas. Everything stayed
put. So one lost to vigorous housework and poor application, the rest holding up well.

pickledandpuzzled · 01/04/2024 18:58

Just an update- it’s been a week and they are lasting ok. I’ve played guitar and no problems.

The tips are chipping slightly- but only to feel not to see.

If anyone else is bothered about allergies- one of the reasons I stopped doing my own was because I was getting that hot sensation. That hasn’t happened, though I did need a top coat.

However, I am reacting to them on my skin. So my ears and skin are slightly inflamed wherever I have scratched.
