Hi,

I keep seeing adverts for Merwave and love the idea of trying, but it's quite an investment when I don't know whether it'll work.

has anyone found anything similar which costs less, or, can I get away with just buying one or two products from the Merwave range. I'm getting the impression I need everything, but is there one or two things that would make the difference alone?

TIA

I use purple shampoo as hair is bleached. Then coconut and macadamia mask - comb out tangles in your hair and rinse. Put oil on when hair is soaking and don't wash out. Then scrunch from bottom up, using cantu curl activating cream - don't use too much - and plop hair into a Microfibre turban. The turban takes away a lot of the wetness but I find air drying works better than a diffuser, so I only wear my hair curly when it's warm out!

I have wavy hair, I like a lot of different curly hair brands such as Only Curls, Boucleme, Jessicurl, Ecoslay

There is a certain amount of experimentation needed to get the balance between enough hold to keep the curl there, and absolutely no volume as your hair is weighed down with product.

But no you definitely don't need everything. I use shampoo, conditioner (ideally leave in) and a styling product. Everything else is just 'nice to have'.

I bought Merwave about 2 months ago after seeing it everywhere. My friend had also bought the box so encouraged me to give it a go.

I love it and have had wavy hair every day since! I don't use bottle number 3 because my hair goes stringy but it is a bit a trial and error to see what your hair likes.

I might try mixing in some different brands to see what else works but what works for me is shampoo, conditioner, mousse and gel. I also use oil to scrunch out the crunch but I don't like the Merwave oil which also makes my hair stringy so I use my old oil for that.

I also started by plopping my hair in a microfibres turban but found I got massive frizz so now I just scrunch my hair dry using my microfibres wrap.

It's definitely trial and error if you want to embrace some waves!

I have wavy hair but find Merwave far too expensive for everyday use. I follow the ‘Wavy hair method by Charlotte Rich’ group on Facebook and a few wavy hair women on Instagram and YouTube : it’s basically an adaptation of the curly girl method but for wavy hair (same principles but lighter products than curly girl as wavy hair is easily weighed down, so no heavy creams etc and sulfates ok sometimes). Works for me!

Following for wavy hair tips. I get mine right about once a month when the wind is in the west and the moon is in its fourth phase. I can never work out what I've done right when it works or wrong when it doesn't. My hair is a mixture of loose waves on top and tighter coils almost underneath so it's tricksy at the best of times.
