Thrift+ or another easy way to sell clothes?

Has anyone ever used Thrift+ to sell your clothes? You send them a bag of clothes and they sell them and give you a very small percentage (10-20% of the sale price usually). They're also very picky about brands they accept - no M&S for example.

Is there a better way? I've sold on Vinted before and it's time-consuming, plus we've now moved house and it's more difficult to ship things where we are currently.

I really need to get rid of probably over 100 items and I could use a bit of cash at the moment also.

Car boot? I was very disappointed in what I got from Vinted, I’d rather give it to a charity shop

It’s pretty easy - you just order a bag, they post it and you fill it up. There are different ways to return it but it’s free to order and return.
However - the amount of cash you get is likely to be quite low. I found good stuff I’d sent to them didn’t sell for ages and then it would only sell when heavily discounted. I think this is because they have a tendency to overprice things in the first place and also the photos and info are generally pretty crap which puts buyers off. For example, I sent in a jacket which I would have priced on eBay/Vinted for about £30. They listed it at about £60 and it obviously didn’t sell, but eventually discounted it to about £15 and it did. I probably got a lot less and it took a lot longer to get anything compared to eBay/Vinted. But it’s obviously much easier. My current strategy if I have a clear out is to list a few higher value items on eBay/Vinted (eg I’ll say anything that I think might sell for over a certain price) and then anything else goes to charity or Thrift+. I can’t be bothered listing on eBay/Vinted for items that sell for under about £10.

I ebay things. Depending on condition and brand things sell well.

Thrift sound fussy if no m and s!

waistchallenge · 23/03/2024 12:20

What sizes are the things you are selling? I lost a lot of weight so am restocking.

RokaandRoll · 23/03/2024 13:02

Thanks, all. The clothes are mostly size 14. I think I'll sell the "big ticket" items on Vinted and give those worth less than £10 or so away. I just feel like Thrift+ is a bit exploitative giving such a low percentage of the profit. I'd be happy with 30-40% but for 10-20% I'd feel ripped off.

I got totally fed up with Thrift +. My items just seemed to disappear into a void and then about every 6 months I get credited £3.60 for something I could have sold on Vinted for more. Would never use again.

NotMyDayJob · 23/03/2024 13:14

Thrift was really good years ago and then they restructured how they rewarded you for sales.

Also there's no accountability, if they don't think they can sell it, it doesn't get listed. But they don't tell you that, so you just have to send your stuff off and hope for the best.

If you can be bothered vinted is probably your best bet.

Thrift+ ? More like theft+. A dress I sent went 'missing ' and they didn't accept a lot of brands even though they were on the accepted brands list. I'll stick with a steady plod on vinted!

DelphiniumBlue · 01/11/2024 13:14

Terrible. I sent them a bag in September, I've had an email telling me that they will be processing it in approx 4 weeks time. Their customer service sucks, 4-5 working days to respond to a message, even if part of an ongoing conversation, for every part of the convo, you go to the back of the queue again, eg they ask for your reference number ( which you already gave) they then reply 5 days later asking you to confirm some other detail which they already have...very tedious and hard to deal with.

I use Thrift to get rid of stuff that hasn’t sold on Vinted - I wouldn’t use it to make money, more as a charity shop that will collect from me rather than me having to take it there! They overprice things massively and then reduce so your stuff ends up selling for a few quid, so the amount you get is negligible. I tend to let it collect and then use it as a postage discount if I order anything from there. I have had some good stuff from there, but agree their photos and descriptions are rubbish, you end up taking a bit of a chance. Vinted is much better if you actually want to make some money from your clothes.

@FranglishMaman I'm so glad I'm not the only one who know about The Little Loop!

Highly recommend them, i had an issue and their customer service was amazing!! Their selection is great for kid clothing and i even can get my older niece clothes too which is hard when pre teens are picky!!

They have recently started a shop in John Lewis in London too, i just wished i lived closer so i can go myself in person and have a look. Defiantly check them out! 😍

THe PP who sad theft+ is spot on. I sent in a bag with some very good stuff and three higher end items weren't listed. When I objected they listed three similar items instead of the ones I'd sent in. Its pretty clear that they have a problem with warehouse staff taking stuff. No doubt the items attributed to me were from someone else who may or may not follow up that their items were missing....

I was even more annoyed when they turned around and said that they were imposing a new sales proceeds division structure on items they already had rather than just new ones arriving.

Thanks for this thread. I could definitely do with some decluttering, so it's good to get new ideas.

I tend to do a mix of Ebay, tabletop sales (hard work but you can shift quite a bit in one go) and sending some items to the baby bank. Oh and my MIL kindly Ebays my clothes if I give them to her! 😂 I never got into Vinted as I couldn't be doing with learning a whole new system...

The Thrift+ site looks quite good for buying but the feedback for selling is a bit, er, mixed. I also quite like the idea of 'Little Loop'.

Icannotremembermyusername · 08/11/2024 12:15

I have cleared out masses of things, donated to charity the items that are lower end but good - New Look, Primark etc and kept the higher end stuff like Whistles, Boden, Zara, Karen Millen etc to sell. Approx 70 items. But am thinking I am looking at selling it as a whole lot to someone who wants a wardrobe revamp or they might want to resell on. I would be happy with £100 for the lot to include good shoes. Any ideas anyone? Oh mostly 12’s and some 10’s ??

BadSkiingMum · 08/11/2024 18:16

You could just try listing it as a bundle on Ebay. Set your price at 100 and set it as an auction?
