How can I repair my extremely damaged decolletage?

DualPower · 20/03/2024 16:14

My decolletage is badly sun damaged from years of exposure. It's not really wrinkly or leathery at all, not yet anyway, but it's red with white bits. I use 50+ protection every day and also cover up as much as possible. I was wondering if there's a product I can use to repair the area and reduce the redness. Thanks

I would suggest going to a laser clinic. Creams aren't going to yield much in the way of results. There are different kinds of lasers which can reduce redness/pigmentation with no down time. I've had IPL and picosure on my face and both have really improved my skin (rosacea/pigmentation).

DualPower · 25/03/2024 08:18

Thanks but at this stage I am just wondering if there are any creams that will help the area look a bit better. Not expecting miracles of course.

The Prai ones are good.
M&S sell them but if you buy from QVC you can try & return within 60 days if you don’t agree with them, though there’s a limit on how much they think you’ve used with creams, not the whole jar!

lindyloo57 · 25/03/2024 12:37

don't bother with prai cream I brought two tubs and it did nothing, if your skin can take it retinol will help, over time its not a quick fix , you could try a vitamin c and a glycolic acid, you must wear spf every day if you go for any of these, I use all three on my face ( not at the same time, ) I'm 63 my winkles don't look any difference but my face feels so much smoother and my pores reduced, I did manage to fade a brown spot on my cheek so it's hardly as noticeable.

Gettingbysomehow · 25/03/2024 12:38

laser or phenol. Ive tried everything and thats all that works.

learieonthewildmoor · 25/03/2024 17:00

Glycolic acid 3 times a week and a good moisturiser twice a day will bring it back to normal. Add some rose hip oil at night if your skin can tolerate oil.

That’s encouraging for me. I’m 53 and started VitC, sunscreen, Tretinoin and Niacinamide a month ago and if all it does is fade the pair of penny sized patches of hyperpigmentation on my cheek I’ll be thrilled to bits! Nothing yet though.

DualPower · 25/03/2024 18:37

Thank you, a few products to try here. Do I layer them?

I’d strongly recommend you choose one serum and use that. Using a barrage is only going to irritate your skin.
Serum, moisturiser, then oil if you’re using that.

DualPower · 25/03/2024 19:26

Okay. Please spell it out to me. Which serum, which moisturiser and which oil?

learieonthewildmoor · 25/03/2024 19:53

How much money do you want to spend?
The Ordinary, Kiehl’s and Drunk Elephant all make good glycolic acids - cheapest to most expensive.
Kiehl’s Skin rescuer was really good for me. I can still get it here in Australia but I believe it’s been discontinued in the US and I’m not sure if it’s available in the UK. The main ingredient is centella asiatica.
I think that whatever moisturiser you use on your face will do the job.
Rosehip oil from the chemist or the ordinary.

Phenol !!??

That's an actual poison.

perhapsbutno · 25/03/2024 20:03

I don't know exactly what you need, but I can tell you that off the shelf creams do barely anything for your skin, aside from making it feel/look more hydrated. For real results you need prescribed cream with active ingredients. Your local skin clinic/aesthetics practitioner/prescribing beautician can help you. It is more expensive but you'll see results. Hope you find something :)

Toothbrushh · 25/03/2024 20:03

You can’t

I also don’t believe off the shelf creams can do anything but moisturise but if I wanted to try I would start by just using my most healing face care products on it for few months.

I’d use Pai, because that’s mostly what I use and love. Others will disagree but this is is from my experience of damaged skin so here goes!

I’d start with a gentle exfoliating wash. Its called Phaze and contains PHA, which is gentler than AHA. There’s a travel size of that.

Then a thick-ish moisturiser, The Anthemis. It has calendula and Rosehip.

Then the pure ‘Rosehip Regenerating Oil’ - just a few drops though! Don’t slather it on! The small size (10ml) will be plenty to be going on with.

They do really good free online consultations. You get 15% off your first order and there are free no questions asked returns if you don’t get on with the products.

I don’t work for Pai, I just love the products, and like what I’ve seen of the company and its founder.

Then I’d see where I was after six months or so, and if I still was unhappy with the skin, I’d not throw any more money at products and just see a dermatologist, we’d probably be talking prescription cream or some kind of light therapy.

The Prai cream makes a big different to my sun-damaged chest

QueenJulian · 26/03/2024 21:13

I use a LED red light mask on my chest and it’s made a big difference to the texture and evened out the colour quite a lot. I’d say it’s improved things by about 50%.

learieonthewildmoor · 31/03/2024 08:29

Cosrx, a Korean brand, makes several lotions and creams with centella asiatica. Cheaper than the Kiehl’s, but not exactly cheap.
If you Google Korean skincare you’ll get tons of products. I’m in Australia so I’m getting Aussie sites but here’s one that looks good

After using the centella asiatica cream and oil for a month, my sun damage cleared up. I had bright red veins all down my décolletage, all cleared.

LadyEloise1 · 31/03/2024 10:23

I found the Prai cream absolutely useless.

PrimalLass · 31/03/2024 10:36

Strange, isn't it, as it's like a miracle on mine. I haven't liked any of their other products much.

NearlyBritishSummertimeYay · 31/03/2024 10:43

I found removing all mirrors was the most effective solution!

Me too. I got the neck serum as well and that didn't make a jot of difference either. Sticky goop.
