Cost per wear

I could do with reducing the amount of clothes I have or at least increasing the turn over of clothes. I have it in mind to find a cost per wear and when I’ve achieved that I can pass on or get rid of the item.

Does anyone else do a cost per wear type calculation when they buy clothes or accessories?

No, never have. However, I know from experience what works in my wardrobe, so will spend a bit more for those items that I know will get good use.

For instance, fine knit sweaters/cardigans will be used quite a bit, but heavy knits , dressier blouses and blazers sit in my closet from one season to the next. So I try not to get lured into buying another unless it goes with plenty of other items.

I don't do cost per wear, probably as my items aren't particularly expensive. But I have a tally chart that I mark off when I've worn them .

Why are you getting rid of clothes after a certain amount of wears? I keep mine until they don't fit or fall apart . They get relegated to only being worn at home when they are starting to get on poor condition.

I think about cost per wear when I buy an expensive item, but in a fairly abstract way. For example last year I bought a leather jacket from Whistles which was £££ even with a 20% off code, but I have worn loads and will continue to do so. I also tend to spend more on jeans (always Levi’s) and knitwear, but less on summer clothes which might not get worn much. O

I saw some advice on here that said to buy outfits (so if you like an item, work out if it actually fits with other things you own to become an outfit, or preferably multiple outfits) - that has worked well for me because it stops me from buying random things that end up sitting in the wardrobe forever. I think this probably means the things I do buy have a better cost per wear too?

I can’t quite understand how anyone would shop for clothes without doing this!
