DH and I are off to the London Stadium in June for a concert and staying at at hotel about 10-15 mins walk away. No reason to suppose we'll have any problems (we haven't in the past) but I'm feeling better to be safe than sorry.

I'd like to get a small cross-body bag, preferably with anti-slash strap and RFID protection. I'll be carrying glasses, phone, credit card, tissues and a bit of money, so nothing too much. Can anyone suggest a good brand? I've looked online and Travelon and Pacsafe seem to be the ones that are coming up the most, but I wondered if anyone had any other suggestions?

Bumping for you as I'd be interested to hear too.

Just use a zip up cross body bag, with an internal zip pocket for your phone and cards (ie the type of bag that many Londoners use every day) and use some common sense.

I worked opposite the London stadium for two years and specially buying a bag with RFID protection and anti slash strap is rather OTT to say the least. There will be tons of stewards and marshalls around in the entrance and exit.

Personally I wouldn't bother with an anti-slash strap. If a bag snatcher is going to hold a knife that close to my body, I'd rather he cut the strap and quickly scarper. And I'm speaking from experience of being on the receiving end of a knife-producing bag snatcher.

Can't you get a RFID protection case for your cards instead?

Thanks @Ginmonkeyagain . I'm a Londoner born and bred and commuted to the City every day until I retired so I'm not unused to considering bag security when I'm travelling. My brother is a copper in that area and has mentioned that there has been an increase in bag thefts especially when large events are on so I'm just taking what I think is a sensible precaution.

@zzpleb That's a fair point!

If I feel I might need extra security for essentials I use a Running Belt waist pack and position it under whatever top I'm wearing. It holds cards, cash and a phone, then I use a simple cross body for the rest of the junk we carry around! Most of the time I just use the cross body though, with an internal zip pocket as mentioned above.

Search on Amazon to start with - Running Belt Waist Pack. If you feel you need one.

Thanks @Quizine

Get something with a chain strap? Can’t slash metal. It wouldn’t have occurred to me to research this though! RFID is also supposed to be a bit of a con isn’t it?

Ginmonkeyagain · 18/03/2024 17:16

@NeedWineNow in which case you will know, as others have pointed out the things you are looking for are a bit pointless. Just get a good zip up cross body bag and ony take what you need out with you.

Same here. In London , or any city really I use (the much despised on here) Radley pocket bag. The smaller versions can be worn underneath a jacket if you're really worried.

DrJoanAllenby · 18/03/2024 18:49

I sew a pocket on the inside of every jacket and coat where I can slide in my phone, bank card and some cash. Then I carry a bag with make up, brush etc of things that can easily be replaced.

LetsBePositive10 · 18/03/2024 18:57

my grandma used to sew pockets into her knickers to hide her cash! I would not want to steal nor receive it from this hiding place! Some places in Australia are refusing cash pulled from bras too. I’d rather it be pulled from a bra than knickers…

I've got a Travelon bag. Had it for a few years. It's really good.
