If you're an Autumn what are your base colours?

I am trying to embrace my autumn colouring, but didn't realise how much I rely on black for jeans / trousers / skirts and tights. I've never really worn black close to my face anyway,
but I am struggling to give it up.
I've been slowly buying more of the "right" colour clothes, but it all feels a bit messy and haphazard and things don't necessarily go together.
Any advice please? I think I need a base colour whether that be a slate grey, warm navy or suchlike.

I wear a lot of stone, chocolate, brown, rust colours. I do love 'pewter' which is a very warm grey / brown colour. I also wear a lot of red and introducing coral, mustard. It all tends to go well enough but I wear jeans a lot so that makes it easier.

Navy is nice but teal is better for me, though it doesn't go that well with brown. I really really love damson, aubergine colours, they would go with my brown clothes but I haven't found much lately.

I find olive green works really well as a base/neutral for me. It works well with rust, mustard, orange, tomato red, cream/ivory, brown, tan etc. I have trouble with navy as most of them are too dark/cool, which is a shame. If I see something in the right navy I grab it but have learned not to rely on it as a main colour.

I'm slowly replacing black and white with charcoal and cream. Aside from that, I wear shades of tan, rust and moss or pale green and sometimes mustard yellow. As a natural redhead, I have looked at colour/hue as the first priority ever since I started buying my own clothes. The correct shades can be harder to find.

I'd say navy. Often the choice is black, grey or navy. I think I might be a Blue Autumn as it's not a bad colour on me (not the best either) though I look for warmer navies, some can be more on the purple side. I wear jeans a lot and am not giving those up ( or changing to jauntier colours that lose the essence of what jeans are) so tend to accept blue is my destiny.

I'd like it to be chocolate brown which is one of best best colours and lately there has been more around. I have some cords, a wool coat, for users and a few tops and jumpers but it's never as common as blue.

I vary my base colour, last year it was wine, this year khaki and a slightly darker green, other years tan or brown. I try and ban myself from buying anymore black. I have enough and although it suits me I suit other colours too.

I have a lot of dark charcoal grey in my wardrobe, which I'm slowly replacing after realising that I have soft summer colouring and, while charcoal isn't terrible on me, it's also not the best. I'm finding that navy (dark navy, not bright navy), olive green and brown (warm tones not cool) all work well as base colours but none of them are as ubiquitous as black or grey. It's also really difficult to find t-shirts etc in ivory or cream instead of white.

Thank you all so much! I think I'm stuck as I tend to have brown leather shoes and bags, and as much as I'd like a navy it's all a bit clashy. Maybe I need to commit to tan as my base and build my wardrobe around that.

I'm just hankering after all these women in clumpy black boots and opaque tights who can then throw almost any dress on top. You're much more limited if you don't wear black aren't you?

I wear a lot of navy, khaki, rust and white/cream.
Last summer i went on holiday with just shorts and tops in those colours. It worked brilliantly

I wear rich, dark autumn colours as my base colours - olive, dark green, navy, dark brown, burgundy. Often brightened with a bit of rust or mustard..

I still wear black, but not near my face.

DaveWatts · 19/03/2024 20:13

I wear mostly chocolate brown, forest green and cream as my base colours - sometimes a warm grey or pewter though it can be hard to find the right shade. I will sometimes wear eg navy trousers on my bottom half but not near my face as I'm a soft autumn so it's not my colour at all.

I'm a soft Autumn but still mainly wear White tops for simplicity. Always with a deep v or scoop neck or an off-white in a Muslin Shirt. You can't beat a fresh white & it goes with all other Autumnal colours.Other than that all my outerwear/knitwear is appropriately Soft Autumnal colours with lots of Brown/Fawn/khaki/soft navy/denim blue.

TheWayBackHome · 20/03/2024 11:53

Chocolate brown and navy (I think they look ok together!), also some charcoal and I still occasionally wear black trousers & jacket (but try to break it up with a scarf or something so I don't look washed out,
