Trainers for training!

Don't know if this is the right place or not, but I'll ask anyway. After many, many years of being inactive, I'm about to join our local leisure centre gym. I'm not young, so am out of the loop on what to wear on my feet. I'm sure leggings and t-shirt are fine, but what do I wear on my feet? I have several pairs of trainers for walking about in (photo attached) - would these be suitable for working out in?

It depends those types are usually worn for weight lifting like squats dead lifts because of how flat they are your able to feel your footing more when lifting heavy weights.

If it's running cycling or fitness classes you are planning on doing then I would like at a sports trainer the provides more cushion and support to your feet.

Nope, not at all, those are just for walking (and even that, some people find them very uncomfortable)

Thanks. I suppose I'm not sure what I will be starting with. I have a consultation with the PT. I just want to be flexible and toned and a bit stronger.

Thank you. I'll look around for more suitable footwear. (I find them incredibly comfortable, hence many pairs!)

Nike do trainers that are suitable for squats and other fitness like a multi all in one kind of trainers metcon they are roughly £100 but you could look to pick them up online for cheaper.

If you're seeing a PT they are likely to have you do a mix of cardio and weight training so the above trainers might be the better option and if you do go on to do squats and dead lifts then you can either purchase a pair of ones you've posted for days when you do that type of work out or go bare feet.

As some in the gym I go to take their trainers off when doing either squats with the bar or dead lifts.

I personally wear hi top converse and vans for weightlifting.

@FunkyMonks Thanks, really helpful. I will be starting from scratch from a position of extreme unfitness, so I suppose I was imagining a gentle stroll on a treadmill or something! You never know, dead lifts and so on may be next year's goal!

Try Metcons. I wear them for weights in the gym
